I think he gets a bum (pardon the pun) rap because of the fact that he is getting exploited by fighting his bouts on PPV. I think its more an indictment of promoters than Chavez jr himself.

He is just fighting who they put out there for him.
He might be ahead of where his old man was at the same age.

First off, he's young, very young. Some even say younger than the 21 years old he claims to be. Some close to him have admitted he can't be that old and is more like 19 yrs old but needed to start making money so the birth certificate was falsified.

Second, he never had an amateur career. He has about 40 fights so far and is undefeated. Granted it's with lesser opposition but this is sort of his "amateur career" he's going through right now.

There's a few things I see in him that are very good. He has very good fundamentals, you can tell he was taught very well by his father and fights a lot like him. He seems to have a good chin like his father and throws a great left hook to the body. He's tall and long for his weight, something his father never had.

There's a few bad things. He looks inexperienced at times and his defense needs major work. Even though he's tall and long he doesn't use them to his advantage and likes to brawl with his opponents and takes that advantage away from himself at times.

I would never say he is going to be as great as his father but I think people are jumping the gun when it comes to him being a "bum". I think with more fights under his belt and his body growing, he could be a GOOD fighter, maybe even contend for a belt.

      What do you guys think?
a very tired ass argument your making for joke cesar chavezjr.
his last opponent was world ranked 104.
come on jokster please fight someone ranked under 100!!!
at least you made weight this time! no trix on the scales.

I mean he alredy have 40 fights, how many more he needs to be ready. I mean look at wilfredo vazquez jr., he doesnt feed himself with his father name and he already with only 16 fights have faced tougher competition that chavez jr and vazquez jr. Doesnt have any type of background either.

I thin jr. Is just a bum ready to get ktfo by a half decent fighter, they are just catching on his dad name.

They should make a fight, with jcc j and camcho jr. And call it, the rise of the bums!!!!!!!
        ................lol

Who knows, maybe he'll show up when the time is right...which seems to be right now. I'd say let him fight Mora if he loses to Pavlik or Cintron is he loses to Angulo.
Everyone's been clowning on Kermit recently, but I'd hate to think about what Kermit would do to the kid. He might decapitate him. And I think Mora would box his ears off.

They need to pull this kid off PPV and put him on Television every 2-3 months. He didn't have an amateur career so he needs to fight OFTEN. Look at Gamboa, he's fighting every couple of months and he did have an amateur career, a great one.

If they want this boy to improve, they need to take him off that damn pedestal he's on and make him work and come up the hard way without that damn silver spoon in him mouth. If they don't it's just a matter of time before he gets his ass handed to him (again).

If they wait too long for him to grow into his body, he'll be a super middle and really get hurt in that weight class.

Here is a thread discussing this:
                http://www.boxingscene.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=257079

I think it would be better for him to get more exposure on ESPN, HBO, and Showtime, rather than isolating himself on small time PPV's. He could increase his fan base which could mean big time PPV's in the future.

I can see your point on this Nastas.

But the fact that we (including me) are NOT willing to pay to watch him all the time probably says more about us than it does about him.

You said it yourself, the point of "exposing" himself on ESPN, SHOWTIME, & HBO for free is to increase his fan base right?

Why increase your fan base? Cause more popularity means more money, correct?
If his team keeps doing these pay per views, it's because he's ALREADY making big $$$$.

I'm with you on your complaint, cause I'd like to see him more, but the fact that he's already established enough fans to draw PPV numbers should tell us he doesn't need me or you to love him.

Or should he do free shows out of the goodness of his heart?

You'd be living in a dream world if you thought a boxer owes YOU something.
                Nah, on the contrary.

It's THIER health that's at risk, THEY deserve the profits.

OMG, I can't believe you just typed that. You're a funny dude. At 43-0 and 22 years old, Chavez Sr stopped Mario Martinez for the WBC 130 Championship and just a couple of fights later was knocking out Ruben Castillo and Roger Mayweather.

I was using the thread starters age of "21". In which case that fight hadn't happened.
Should have looked up JC jr's age myself, to see he was 23.

and thanks I like to think of myself as a funny dude.

                      .
Which is pretty high for a Junior Middleweight. I don't think Vernon forrest is in the top 50 when it comes to world rankings and he's one of the better junior middleweights right now..
