P4P is not about moving up or down in weight classes. Is about your dominace compare to ther fighters in other divisions.

That been said, hatton doesnt have a super impresive resume. Even if he beats Pacquiao he wont be number 1 P4P, hell be P4P number 5 at best. He needs to beat more than 1 big name to be cosider number 1. I think he needs to beat pac, JMM and another big name to be number 1 p4P. and I dont see that happening

P4P meaning weight doesn't effect you or your style and you can dominant through the rankings of weight classes. Ricky has showed he can't already so..?
If he beats POacman who is the number 1 p4p and then beats JMM who is number 2...then ummmmmmmmmm

      Obviously yeah.

Yes, he can. If he beats who he wants to beat, then he definitely can be pound for pound number 1. Besides, Hagler, Monzon etc. and heavyweights are/were ranked in the top 10 pound for pound without moving up.

You dont understand the meaning of P4P. P4P simply means "all things equal."
A fighter can never move up or down in weight and still be the number 1 P4P fighter.

                Indeed.

P4P is a way to gauge fighters without weight being a consideration. Simply put, if Pacquiao was in the same weight class as Vitali Klitschko, he would beat him. This ranking system was created because of Sugar Ray Robinson. It's not an official title, it's not a belt, and you don't get to be considered P4P #1 simply by beating the current P4P #1. P4P is based on opinion, and most people's personal lists come quite close to The RING magazine's list. The RING list isn't compiled by their staff, it is compiled by an independent panel of boxing "experts". This is a good thing because it's impossible to claim the RING is biased in any way.

Weight is irrelevant -- a fighter can be the consensus P4P #1 even if he stays in a single division for his entire career, but moving into different divisions undoubtedly influences opinions of what constitutes a great fighter.

                I'd say maybe #5 or #4. Right now he's around #8.

Beat a string of current quality fighters decisively and he might be up there

Yes yes yes!!! I know that weight shouldn't be a factor as far as moving up and down. But that being said, we've seen Hatton attempt to move up and was unsuccessful. So the idea of your style is able to beat other fighters regardless of weight, knowing that his style was affected by the weight difference, it doesn't mean anything? Just beating other fighters ranked #1 and 2 who have effectively moved up and down, that makes him #1 then? Maybe we should add a different category to the P4P rankings or way that it's based on.

no, if ricky can beat pac, jmm and floyd, he can be considered as p4p #1. when was the last time a boxer beat the p4p #1 and #2 boxer and the recently retired p4p #1 boxer?

                      that is unprecedented *****.
