oh yeah, there's a reason hopkins fought at 160 and 175 and never 168. that reason is joe calzaghe.

He's overrated by some and underrated by others. Just like almost every other fighter.

I would add to that the Eubank as it was his first big fight and the Lacy fight simply because of the manner he beat Lacy who was at the time supposed to be the great new hope.

Joe Calzaghe is an All-Time great IMHO. Joe is easily the GOAT (#1) at SMW and would be competitive with any great fighter at MW or LHW IMO. It's hard to rank fighters All-Time, especially fighters from different weight classes, era's and most lists are extremely biased, so it's best to rank fighters in their respective weight classes or the one they spent the majority of their careers. That's the best way to keep the biases out. I don't see any SMW in history that would've beaten JC. Jones and Toney didn't spend much time at SMW, but I think Calzaghe would still edge a decision against either in their respective primes.

Great (and highly unorthodox) fighter. Great champion.

                  +10 Respect.

He never fought at MW, and only had 2 bouts at LH, aginst 2 old fighters at the combined age of 83....

In both bouts he was floored in the first round.

Can you imagine what would happen if Hopkins and Jones were in their Prime?
Or could you imagine what would happen if he went against proper LH's?

Sorry Pal, some of you Brits make Calzaghe into a joke.

IMO, he is a good boxer, very talented, but wasted his career fighting nobodies and Hyped up bouts.

I dont care if he lost, i would have rather seen him lose against the best, then to win against nobodies.

                    Good fighter, Waste of talent

Well Hopkins is currently ranked #3 P4P so age wasn't a factor in his defeat to Calzaghe. Even if Calzaghe, Jones and Hopkins were all at their best when they fought, Joe might go down but would get up and still dominate, that's what I can "imagine" happening. Unfortunately neither Jones or Hopkins wanted to know when they were in their "primes" for good reason, they'd have lost just like they did when they finally fought and they knew it, deal with it!

For everybody saying Joe fought "nobodies" they cant seem to name the big names he should have been fighting, because he fought the biggest names available. There just weren't a whole lot of huge names from MW-LHW over the last decade and Joe beat all the top names except Ottke, Toney and Tarver. Dawson MIGHT become a name but isn't really one yet...
