I give him credit for fighting at least an even fight with a 43 year old hopkins. That at least solidifies him as being better than Pavlick. Although Taylor beat Bernard so whatever. I give him mad props. Not above Roy or Bernard but I think he's right after roy and Bernard. Guys like Trinidad, Mosely, De la Hoya, and Meayweather dominated multiple weights. Thats one thing Calzaghe didn't do, which makes me think he was scared and protected. The best of the best go up in weight, then again, then again. Joe probably would have gotten beat the moment he stepped out against a top contender a weight above him. There are alot of fighters who are undefeated and more dominant than Joe was at there natural weight. Including all of those fighters I named.

Good boxer, but wasted his talent facing Mediocre fighters in a mediocre division. Moved up weight clas for his final two fights againt opponenets at the comined age of 83.
Ridiculous

Nothing against Calzaghe he has accomplished alot (he needs to accomplish alot more to really get the recognition he deserves).
Just cant get over hes slapping technique, watching the slowmo .gifs of him vs bhop and jones is embarassing... he would probably be the last boxer I would recommend someone new to boxing to watch lol.

Joe Calzaghe is the best SMW ever and the best fighter from MW-SMW during his era and proved it in the ring.
When did fighters "have to fight in multiple weight categories in order to be great" start? The reason most fight in multiple weights is because they start small and grow into a more natural weight or just cant stay in shape and move up. Hagler and Hopkins don't seem to get any hate for staying at 1 weight class for most of their career, like Joe does. For those that think Joe ducked "names" during his career, they need to name them. Joe practically begged Taylor for a fight when he got his wins over Hopkins and still was unable to get him to agree to a contract. He came close but Taylor decided to ask for double (10 million) of what was being offered at the last minute just like Hopkins did to him several years earlier. Jones even admitted that the only reason he was fighting Calzaghe now was "I have nothing to lose", which he said on FNF leading up to the Calzaghe fight! When the "elite" had something to lose they didn't want to know!
Professional boxers see an awkward fighter with a great chin, speed, stamina and work rate who also happens to be a southpaw in Calzaghe. For most of his career the risk wasn't worth the reward which is why it took Calzaghe getting the leverage before he was able to complete his great legacy by getting the "big names" in the ring.Last edited by Johnny Rebel; 03-27-2009, 07:43 AM.

I don't like Calzaghe because I hate his attitude and his style is hard to watch for me. There's nothing pretty about it, if you ask me. As far as underrated, no I don't think so. There's enough people that overrate him to balance everything out.

The ''Legend Killer'' Joe Calzaghe is a great champ, I already stated in past post his legacy is already cemented. He might just be the greatest super middleweight champion ever after Roy Jones Jr.
On another note I think he would of beaten any version of the legendery Benard Hopkins.
