Originally posted by SHB View PostI'm making assumptions but then so are you. And mine are backed up by events on the night. While no doubt hampered, I saw enough to see exactly why Warren put Khan in with Barrera - he knew.
The fact is, we don't know any more now than we knew before the fight took place (other than the fact that Khan has clearly improved a lot under Roach). To pretend otherwise is delusional.
Khan needs to pass the sort of test that an uninjured Barrera could have given him over 12 rounds, at this stage of his career; so a rematch would be good for him in the long run.
And it should clearly have been a NC, so Barrera deserves a rematch.Last edited by Dave Rado; 03-26-2009, 03:02 PM.

he's doing this to give Mab some credibiility.

@mrbigshot, I don't think Darke and Watt have any less bias than other tandems in America but they present a good blend of excitement and analytical content.
In America, I like Al Bernstein for his straight up analysis and (believe it or not) Larry Merchant for not being a yes-man to his colleagues. He's also willing to ask tough questions after the fights.
What puts you off about Darke and Watt?

I admit that Khan was winning the fight, my thing is the quality and timing of the stoppage....

If the decision is to stop the fight, it should had been stopped as early as when the cut got by barrera, not in he 5th round to where the public blasting the decision by intentionaly favoring Khan, or not in the 4th round to avoid speculations of just salvaging barrera's defeat by intentionally not going to 5th round. But if you were the doctor knowing that barrera wont die on that cut but would be possibly enough to stop the fight, and asked the opinion of the boxer concerned, and he think and felt he could still fight and does not want to stop the fight, would you dare stopping the fight considering that you know how important this fight to both fighters? The kind of Barrera would blame you to the utmost by boasting he would have been win on the fight if not being stopped in the very first round! and don king would sue you the same because of this premature stopping!

I vehemently agree that the fyt should have been stopped early. But that is moot and academic now. They can order a rematch but Barrera can get cut again, by legitimate punches. He gets cut easily now he can be labeled “Fragile – handle with care”. For the nth time I’d say Marco Antonio “Baby Faced Assassin” Barrera should hang those gloves up. Thank you for your contributions to the sport. The boxing world salutes you! You are one of a kind, we admire your bravery. Don’t let Don King use you more..…..it’s not worth it.
