Why does Floyd get the blame for the Cotto fight never happening?

I think both guys are just really proud.
Floyd wants to be called out, he wants the attention.
Cotto doesn't want to give him that satisfaction. He'll say he wants to fight him but won't go any farther than that while Floyd wanted him to grovel.Comment

He did say he would love to fight just about every great fighter there has been in the last forever, and a lot of them didn't come off.
He said he would love to fight Winky Wright when he was at 140... do you really think he would have loved to move up to 154 to fight a huge and really skilled junior middleweight at that point? I doubt it. If he would have loved to... he's kind of dumb in my opinion. That's just not a smart fight to take at that point.Comment

I know that a lot of people may flock to the thread for the title but hear me out. My intention in not to bash Cotto because I am a fan. Though I am a fan of Floyd my intentions are not to inflate his legacy either. I have wanted to see a Mayweather vs Cotto match-up for the longest. Its the fight that made the most sense at Welter when Floyd was still active. I was disappointed when the fight never came through but have to admit that it seems to me that people look at this fight as a means to criticize both fighters. I know the whole thing about Arum not wanting to match up Floyd and Cotto at 140. I also know the whole thing about Cotto stating him and Floyd were rivals working for the same company and when the time was right the fight would happen. I just don't get why people blame either fighter for the fight not happening. Many here seem to think Floyd is "ducking" Cotto. I could understand that more if Cotto gave the impression at any point in time that he was actually pursuing Floyd. Cotto is classy and does not call too many guys out. Floyd when asked about Cotto speaks negatively about him and down plays his relevance. As a Floyd fan I have seen him do this to guys he fully intends to fight so I take it with a grain of salt. He said Ricky Hatton was a fat man that wasn't on his level before Ricky called him out. The fight ended up happening despite what he said. This case was a bit different because it seems neither really was pursuing the other. Its a shame too because that is the fight that was supposed to happen prior to Mayweather retiring. Not Margarito/Clottey/Berto or even Mosley. Those fights are can happen now but at the time the fight to make was Mayweather vs Cotto. Maybe if Cotto leaves Top Rank the deal will be sweetened and the fight will be made but in the meantime people should stop making it seem like someone ducked the other.Comment
