Miguel Cotto May Become His Own Promotional Boss

Most boxing promoters go broke. It is a very difficult business in which only the rare few will be successful. Ray Leonard knows as much about boxing as anybody yet he couldn't make it as a promoter. Cotto should stay where he is.

That's also true.

You need heavy bank behind you to promote successfully. Like any other business, it takes time to break even and essentially Cotto would be riding his promotion solely on his name (in the beginning at least). That's why I say he should get a group of dudes who know what they're doing and have 1 or 2 dudes to look over them (i.e. Getting 2 lawyers, one to watch another lol) to make sure the ship is running properly while he continues his career.

i see cotto promotions turning into another mayweather or winky promotions. all they are gonna do is promote their own fights. cotto won't make it big like dlh. none of those guys have any charisma. floyd's got a big mouth, but that isnt promoting.

cotto barely promotes his own fights today... i doubt he will be able to do so in the future for himself, or other fighters.

I agree with this. He should work out a deal with GBP, it would be beneficial to both sides. He can use Miguel Cotto promotions as almost like a Puerto Rican fighter farm system for GBP, and he can promote himself along with Schafer and Co.

Cause realistically, his stable would never be anything more than PR prospects.

I can't argue with that. At least as of right now, Cotto's promotion will probably help some of the PR fighters get some fights while Cotto holds the banner in his own fights, but I don't see it competing with a Top Rank or GBP who have a stable of recognized fighters.

Cotto is a smart guy in the end he will end up joining GBP. A lot of fighters have tried their own promotions but have failed except DLH. I like that idea though that somebody posted of promoting the PR prospects like a farm system for Goldenboy that now might have potential!
