    - A lesser known yet real "Boxer -vs- Wrestler" match took place in 1976 when Muhammad Ali tangled with Japanese wrestler Antonio Inoki. The majority of the match saw Inoki on his back kicking Ali’s leg. In the 15 rounds, Ali threw less than a dozen punches. In this match, the only losers were the fans. The match itself was declared a draw. Ali made over $6 million for the match while Inoki made $2 million.

Everyone speaks of "The thrilla in manilla" as one of the best Heavyweight
fights of all-time. Suprisingly the scores at the time of the stoppage had
Ali winning rather easily 166-160, 166-162, 167-162. Shouldn't the greatest
heavyweight fight of all time be a bit closer?

Lennox Lewis was asked why he did not sign a contract with Don King after
won the Olympic Gold medal, his responce "How can you trust a man who can
talk for 5 minutes and you cant understand a sentence of it?

Benny Leonard, Ted "kid" Lewis, Henry Armstrong, Billy Conn, and Manuel
Ortiz are Hall of Famers. What else do they have in common???

THEY ALL LOST THEIR FIRST PRO FIGHTS! by the way so did Miguel Canto and
two heavyweight champs Bonecrusher Smith and Mike Weaver.

Did you know the hector camacho also relealsed a album.
Did Carpentier win world titles in any of those weight classes? I bet Camacho's disc wasn't quite as feminine as Oscar's.

Roy Jones Jr. once went an entire round without being hit against Vinny Pazienza, a first in the Compubox era.

That's a pretty good one.. Did you know Charlie "Russian Pride" Zelenoff lost his first fight via 1st round DQ after he spit his mouth piece out twice? There are some solid "Did you Knows?" on this thread already!

The longest gloved championship bout under Marquis of Queensbury rules and arguably the greatest lightweight championship fight of all time was Joe Gans DQ win over Oscar Matthew 'Battling' Nelson. It was in 1906 in Goldfield, Nevada. The fight ended after Nelson fired a low blow after taking a terrific beating. It was in round 42.

                    here a few more
I wonder how many people are aware that the great Alexis Arguello lost
his first fight BY KNOCKOUT in the first round?

I think Sam Langford and Harry Wills hold the record for the most meetings
between the same two boxers with 23 fights.

Jack Dempsey vs. Jess Willard in 1919 was the first fight to be broadcast
                    over the radio.

So now you are proabably saying "what was the first televised fight?"
It was in 1931 and featured Benny Leonard vs. Mickey Walker.

and one more for the road

The fight between Muhammad Ali and Earnie Shavers featured the first
women to judge a heavyweight title fight. Her name was Elva Shain.
