"Boxing 101" Important Boxing Trivia/Information thread! Post some Facts!

Everyone post "must know" information/trivia about boxing. If we get enough important information this thread can be "Boxing 101" for new fans of the sport. I know personally I could stand to learn a lot about the earlier days of boxing. Some info may seem like common knowledge or noobish but don't be affraid to post it if it's important or has historical significance. Please only post facts, no opinions. I'll start:

    - On November 22, 1986, 20-year-old Mike Tyson knocks out 33-year-old Trevor Berbick to become youngest Heavyweight champion ever.

    - Muhammad Ali entered the ring against Sonny Liston a 7-1 underdog. Liston quit On his stool following the sixth round. He told his cornermen
he couldn't continue, complaining of a shoulder injury.

    - John L. Sullivan was the last heavyweight champion of bare-knuckle boxing.

Everyone add some facts. I'm sure there's a lot of great trivia old and new that Boxing Scene can put together.

Jack Johnson was the first Black HW champ but not the first black man to win a world tittle that was Joe Gans who captured the world lightweight title in 1902, becoming the first black American world title holder in any sport. Gans was a master strategist and tactician, and one the earliest practitioners of "scientific" boxing. As a black champion reigning during the Jim Crow era, he endured physical assaults, a stolen title, bankruptcy, and numerous attempts to destroy his reputation.

Nice, didn't know that. I think we need John Scully, Silencers, Manchine and ******** in here to drop some knowledge! I want Bert Sugar's boxing brain. If we get some more good info, I might just edit the first post to include all of it.

On March 27th, 1982 both Wilfredo Gomez and Jeff Chandler defended their titles via 6th round knockouts..... nothing special about that right? Not unless you know that BOTH fights officially ended at 2:28 of the round!

Sugar Ray Robinson's real name is Walker Smith, he used a friends identity to box when underaged.

I think that the Galaxy brothers Khaosai and Khaokor of Thailand were the first twins to become world champions.

Did you know Marvin Hagler is the all time middleweight knock out king with a .788 % KO percentage, Stanley Ketchel had a .766 % KO percentage not sure if this is still true

Nice work Version. You have a wealth of bizarre boxing info! Keep adding if possible. Didn't Manny Pacquiao have to weigh in with weights in his shorts to make the minimum weight requirement? More proof he's come a long way regarding divisions in his journey as an elite fighter.

Everyone already knows it but.. Willie Pep once won a round of boxing without throwing a single punch.

thanks i think i have a few more.
Here is a odd fact, the great Carlos Monzon had 60 KO's in his career but never scored one in the first round. Talk about a slow starter.
