Calzaghe's record isn't the greatest, I'm not even a fan of his. But I can call a spade a spade. And any "top 100" list is completely subjective anyway. There's no objective way to establish the 100 greatest boxers of all time. What you get is generally 40-50 guys everybody can agree on (Robinson, Pep, Ali, Holmes, Hagler, Leonard, Whittaker, Chavez, Lopez, Jones, Hopkins, and so on and so forth), but after you make it to about 50, after that, it's all a clusterfuck of personal opinion.

It is of my opinion, that Joe ranks on that list, somewhere between 75-100. I haven't the patience to actually compile the list, and nobody would agree with my picks or their respective numbers if I did anyway.

Well it's nice to see a non-Calzaghe fan who can be objective and who rates him even more highly than I do, when I'm a Calzaghe fan - props to you for that. In general, people who aren't fans of his are haters or at least seriously under-rate him.

I'm not denying Tarver put on weight to play Mason Dixon, what I'm denying is that it severely effected him ... It wasn't until afterwards that the excuses came pouring out.

Well I took no notice of his excuses, I just used my own eyes, and I thought he looked very lack lustre in the ring that night, and in every subsequent fight. You may well be right that Hopkins would have won anyway, but I'm not convinced that the film made no difference; and certainly, I don't think the version of Tarver we've seen since then is the same standard as the one we saw in the first two fights with Jones. For whatever reason, he seems to me to have aged very quickly in the last couple of years.

Regarding your other points in your post, they're fair opinions: we'll just have to agree to disagree on whether fighting Adamek will increase his ATG ranking or not, but there are plenty of people who share my opinion on that. It's just a subjective opinion.

Cool deal. We can agree to disagree. However, I just want to add this about Tarver.

I don't think Tarver was ever what anybody thought he was. I think it was more Roy looking bad, than Antonio looking good. Hell, I thought Tarver won every fight against Jones (I gave him the first clash as well). But since that first fight, his handspeed has dropped off pretty significantly, and he's aging pretty badly.

I just don't think people noticed in the second match with Roy because he knocked him out in the second round with a perfect punch. And by the time the 3rd fight came around, Roy was so far removed from being a threat, that it was impossible for Tarver to look like anything but a god.

But we'll disagree on this, so no point debating it any further.

I think that's an unfair argument, because all it says is that Hopkins has aged much better than Jones. All three fights were after Jones was badly faded. But as I keep pointing out ATG, status isn't based mainly on how well a fighter ages; if it was, Archie Moore would be ranked much higher than Henry Armstrong, Ali, and Hagler, and that's not the case.
