When it comes to selling fights, the most important factor is the build-up to the fight and the storyline, NOT the fight itself.

And yes, I'm taking the economy into consideration. If it wasn't for the economy I'd think he could crack a million easily, depending on who he fought.
Style has a lot to do with it. Maybe not to me and you, but I'm talking about the casual fans here....Who payed to watch him fight and end up being disappointed, cause he didn't back up all that **** talking on how he was going to destroy them in the ring, only to see him on his jets all night long. Floyd knows he can't be doing that all the time, it gets OLD.

Look at Hopkins, he was doing it and looked how his last PPV tanked.

Floyd would never see the 1 million mark again unless its DLH. Maybe, just maybe Pac/Cotto, but highly unlikely.

Anyway, goodnight, have a good snooze.
It's not even that. It's just sheer ******ity. Nothing irritates me more, when something, anything, is so obvious, yet people are too ignorant to realize it.

People seemed very please with the Hatton fight. He put on quite the show, and backed up everything he said. And the De La Hoya fight was not nearly as bad as you're making it out to be.

Whatever dude, as soon as the opponent for his next fight is announced, bet every single point you have on the number of PPV buys it gets.

And the difference in that fight between DLH PPVs was how much??? lol

I find it funny you're adding the state of the economy with this thought that you have, he can sell TONS of PPVs. You will see, don't say I didn't tell you so.

Why are PPV totals so important to fans who don't get any of that money? And what exactly do PPV #s prove? The number of people paying to watch a fight doesn't reflect at all on the fight itself or the fighters in the ring. If movies like Titanic, Spider Man 3, some of the Star Wars flicks are on the top-grossing movies of all time lists (I'm assuming they are), that doesn't mean they're automatically great or even good movies.

I mean, it would appear to me this whole discussion is a popularity contest. Marciano fans and SRR fans probably argued about a lot of stuff, but who sold more tickets? Maybe, but probably not.

I was the person in my group of casual fan friends who suggested having a party to watch DLH vs. Mayweather. A lot of them had heard about the fight already. Right after the fight, which was popularly described as "****" amongst the 20 people gathered, a few of my friends made it a point to tell me (and only me) they thought the fight ******. I wish I would have known the PPV numbers so I could have told them, "Yeah, but it sold over a million pay-per-views." I'm sure they would have seen the fight differently then.

Since when does 2.4mil from the DLH fight to Hatton's 800k equal only 400k in the U.S.???

                  You didn't specify the U.S.

And 900k isn't bad considering Hatton was a virtual unknown in the U.S., and being Hatton's first PPV in the U.S.

Compare that figure with any Oscar fight with the exception of Trinidad, and you'll see that it's very comparable.

Oscar's fight with Mayorga did 900k'ish, Oscar's fight with Hopkins only did 1m, Oscar's fight with Mosley II also only did just over 1 million.

You wanted to compare sales INSIDE the U.S., so that's what we're doing.
