Amir Khan Decisions Barrera in Cut-Shortened Showcase

By Cliff Rold - His chin will still be suspect but the athletic gifts of the 22-year old 2004 United Kingdom Olympic Silver Medalist Amir Khan (20-1, 15 KO) remain a point of conviction. On Saturday night, they may well have ended the career of a legend. Over five one-sided rounds, Khan battered and bloodied 35-year old former Jr. Featherweight, Featherweight and Jr. Lightweight titlist Marco Antonio Barrera (65-7, 43 KO) en route to a shortened decision win on Saturday night at the M.E.N. Arena in Manchester, England.

Khan moves forward in the Lightweight ranks. Barrera, one might think, moves to the brink of retirement and certain enshrinement in the Hall of Fame.

Khan entered the bout just shy of the division limit at 134 ½, Barrera on the mark at 135 lbs. Stepping to center ring, a graphic size difference was immediately apparent as the taller and broader Khan shadowed the former Featherweight king. Even more graphic was a difference in speed and power in favor of the local matinee idol. Dominating with a snapping left jab, two hard rights and a left stunned Barrera at a minute in. A right uppercut burst through the guard of Barrera at the midway point and a quick clash of heads followed by a left hook and short, crisp right sent Barrera to the ropes with a gash near the hairline. yet another reason why you don't go to europe to fight. this fight should have been called on that cut, but because of obvious home cooking it was allowed to continue. anywhere else and it's stoped. i mean com'on, what was the difference between the fourth an the fifth! I'll tell you today i'll tell tomorrow, khan will never be anything more than a speed bump for any of the top lightwieghts.

As Barrra said he only had one eye, dont care what anyone says one eye in boxing is a massive disadvantage, his eye was full of blood, you could see when he had no blood in his eye at the beggining of the rounds it was a totaly diffrent fight, once the blood was there again he was blinded, i tell you this should be a rematch because im sure Barrera would win, Knockout without a doubt, khan aint got knock out power. i will admit he is vastly improved though and due to blood in Barrera eye it flatterd him slightly

Mainly that, on being asked in the fourth, Barrera said he wished to continue. He's a warrior, not a whiner.

So your meaning to tell me Khan will get a shot at JMM without having to fight Prescott? Surely khan should be calling out Prescotts name? None of this makes sense.

The doctor should have stopped the fight at the conclusion of Round 1. The reason that he waited til round 5 was to avoid the fight being a "no decision"

                    Terrible main event

                    BUT

wow...what an undercard. 3 brutal upset KOs... I enjoyed the PPV even though the main event was disgraceful
