Tough fight for me to call because of how slow Clottey starts off. He can't
afford to be all counter fighting Cotto because Cotto punches are heavy.

If Clottey stays true to his word and brings the fight to Cotto applying the pressure then I will go with Clottey. Clottey would be my favorite due to his defense, firm chin and pretty GOOD power. Miguel Cotto has GREAT power and a alright chin but this fight will pretty much be a test of who's has the best game plan & defensive strategy. I think this fight will be fought in the middle of the ring.
Great analysis! Very tough, competitive fight - I have Cotto winning because I think his mental game will win it- Clottey has all the physical advantages, but you never know what you're gonna get from him. He always says he's gonna bring the fight, but shuts down when he needs to pick it up. Just my take -- I'm gonna be there fo sho...

Your right, Clottey & Margarito are different fighters but you have to take
into consideration Clottey's defense & durability. Clottey took Margarito's
best & dished out some of his own offensive skill on Margarito with a broken hand and the fight was still close. That means Clottey is very durable & he has GREAT defense. Cotto is going to try to come in applying pressure on Clottey but if Clottey can take Margarito's pressure & power for 12 rounds what makes you think Cotto is going to be able to throw Clottey off his game? The only way I say Cotto has a chance is if he exposes himself too long in a counter stance & lets Cotto **** on him. If Clottey stays active and aggressive then the lack of defense of Miguel Cotto can get him in all sorts of trouble. When this fight is announced officially I'm riding with Clottey.

      • Here's my take on it

If it means anything but I see it like this. Miguel Cotto is a solid puncher and has a decent level of boxing skill in the ring & can inflict his will on fighters but a guy like Clottey can throw Cotto off of his original pressure game. Remember the fight with Shane Mosley, Mosley didn't pressure much in the beginning but he did box Cotto and got off his fair share of counters on Cotto but Mosley just always leaves his head open and Clottey doesn't. Cotto's not going to be able to push Clottey around the ring like he did Zab, Gomez and Jennings, Clottey's going to make it a toe to toe fight and Clottey defense just trumps Cotto's, plus Clottey has a good counter puncher game & Cotto is wide open sometimes for the Counter and upper cut.

To me Clottey is a mix between Winky, Margarito & Shane. Defense similar to Winky, chin & durable like Margarito and ability to counter like Shane. Not saying that he is a mix of them or not but he is a solid fighter & it is possible that he can take away Cotto's body punch. On top of that Clottey got caught by Margarito in the body and ate them. Not convinced that KO will be able to KO Clottey but who knows? Only will know come fight time.

        • If Clottey can mount the type of offense he did against Chico, Cotto will be in for a long night.

I never made any excuses for him because facts are facts. Castillo 1 was his toughest fight and some will say he won, lost or it was razor close. I to felt he underestimated Castillo going into that fight but he also was injured so everything plays a factor but YOU have to take into consideration that the kid came back & gave him a rematch and beat him more convincingly then before. This is boxing, fighters lose rounds all the time and that's facts Zab won 5 Floyd took 7 and was going for the KO until he got fouled but that's what your not taking into consideration but instead saying it was a tough fight for him? he adjusted to Zab's, speed, power and South Paw stance and systemically beat Zab down but your not seeing that only saying since he lost 5rds to Zab that it was close?

Cotto got his whole face bust open and Zab had Cotto almost out on his feet when Cotto fouled Zab and that's was in the beginning of the fight? Sure Floyd glove touched the mat against Zab and to me that was a knock down but it was ruled a slip but dude came back and whipped his ass without getting his face bust open of fouling Zab. That's why I respect Floyd and know he is that much better because he's a thinking man's fighter. How many times must you guys ignore the fact that Floyd wanted to fight Cotto and Mosley when he was coming up?

Everyone had a chance at Floyd and blew it Margarito when he lost to Williams, Williams when he lost to Quintana, Cotto when he lost to Margarito. They couldn't hold the title long enough to become the P4P #1 fighter in the world or the recognize Welter to lure a fight out of PBF, it took Manny Pacquiao? You can't blame Floyd for not fighting these guys because the doors swings both ways.

Hatton will display his weak chin AGAIN when he gets knocked out by PacMan before the 7th. AND Cotto vs Clottey... will be great work for Cotto and Clottey will be frustrated catching punches all night. Cotto pitches a Shutout UD!!!!
39 wins, 25 KO's, how many corner stoppages and towels got thrown into the ring? Floyd has power but it is just underrated because when he moved up to 147 and couldn't KO baldomir (Who doesn't get KO'd) & Oscar De La Hoya (Who was at his comfortable weight & never was KO'd prior to the Floyd fight) You guys will try anything to discredit him by taking shots at his past opponents just to make his accomplishments seem that less good.

Weak chin, Hatton? He has only been KO'd once in his professional career out of like 45 fights by the best P4P at that time in the sport of boxing at 147? 140, Hatton has never been KO'd. Lil Manny couldn't even KO Marquez after knocking him down a total of 4 times in two fights, 3 times in one fight is going to KO the stronger Hatton who has been fighting comfortably at 140 & moving up to 147 taking power shots and dropping bigger guys than Manny? Cotto is going to lose because Clottey's defense and durability will outlast Cotto's assault.

              • He'll try and do a Margarito on Cottey, applying mega pressure and hoping Cotto wilts. Just might work.

                • Cotto vs Clottey June 13th

This is going to be a great fight. Cotto took the tune up that he needed to get his flow going again. I respect him even more now that he stepped up and is taking a dangerous fight against Clottey. Clottey is a boxer and has really good defense. My concern is Clottey's inactivity. I give the edge to Cotto by decision, however we still don't know what to expect from Clottey (meaning ring rust). Anyways, it's going to be a great fight, can't wait.

                  • Clottey while a good solid fighter lets the other fighter dictate the pace of the fight. His game has been to block punches and counter. work off of the other fighters mistakes. Clottey does not have the stamina or power to put on the suffocating type pressure that he would need to keep Cotto at bay. If he try to pressure Cotto his defense will not be the same and Cotto will pick him apart.
