Having revaluated im not sure you know. I mean thinking about it. Morales did have a tendency to get trapped on the ropes, and i cant see him laying there with Arguello's viscous body punching.
I did say he would beat Arguello, if he was able to step inside and flurry from mid range, but then again like i said previously Arguello was devastating, if you stayed at the end of his punching range etc.
Then there is the lack of lateral movement. Now i think about it. I dont think EM did have enough lateral movement to offest AA.
I do still think Morales is the straight puncher though. Arguello was a straight, puncher, when throwing the 1 2, but not when he unloading hooks combinations etc. I also still think Morales speed, countering skills would give him trouble.
I dont know i guess im sticking up for the more modern fighter a bit. I dont think, its a foregone conclusion though. Tough fight to call.

I agree with a lot of what you're saying. I hold Erik in very high regard (he's on of my 3 favorites ever) and I can see Erik fighting Arguello to a standstill, possibly winning even at 126. At 130 I believe Arguello was just a more complete offensive force with the great punching power in both hands and a great deal of technique as well. I have a lot of respect for what he did at 130.
Morales could get away with being dragged into those exchanges with arguello because of his granite chin and his overall toughness, but I ultimately seeing him being hurt more than Arguello late in the fight which would sway rounds in Arguello's favor. Erik would be there until the end though, throwing that mean overhand right and left uppercut.
Good topic and debate here though. I'm glad everybody just talked about these two great fighters without spewing a bunch of ridiculous crap!

Actually there was some of the usual "arguello by murder" or "arguello has no chance", but yeah... less than usual!

Yeah nice one! oldgringo.
Im a big fan of Alexis, he was a truly GREAT guy, and he was a beast of a fighter back in the day. Like yourself though i also got a lot of respect for Morales too.
Its a shame Alexis lost to Fernandez, because there was talk of him fighting Duran, if he came through that fight.
PS i think he would of won that fight had it not been a 10 or 12 rounder. Arguello was starting to cook as the fight was nearing the end, and his opponents was fading.
Alexis handled him a little easier in the rematch though, he nearly knocked him out towards the end of that fight.
Thats why i was a bit sceptical of Alexis in a shorter fight, because he was a slow starter, and he was clearly a fighter who was made for Championship rounds [15] as apose to 10/12.
