Calzaghe Rejects Golden Boy Offer For Hopkins Rematch

Hold on, your admitting hopkins landed the cleaner and more effective punches, when you add to that he knocked calzaghe down, how in the hell did calzaghe deserve to win that fight?

Because Calzaghe landed a lot more punches. They may not have been as 'clean' and 'effective' (if B-Hop's had been that 'effective' he would have won by KO), but there's a limit to how far landing the 'cleaner' shots will take you if they are outnumbered. All claims that B-Hop actually 'won' seem to be based on one criteria while ignoring the others. As to the knock-down, B-Hop won that round 10-8. That's generally all you get for a knock-down if the other guy gets up and keeps fighting.

The simple fact is by the 6th in Calzaghe had B-Hop's number, adjusted, and was dictating the fight until it finished. THAT's why he won what, everybody agrees, was a close fight.

So if i go into a championship fight, throw 1,000 pitty pat slaps, most of which dont land, but the other guy knocks me down, and lands the cleaner more effective shots, I still win because I threw a bunch of shots, most of which missed and hit gloves.

A- No one lands on him much flush so you have to settle for quantity over quality unfortunately, and he managed to land on Hops more than anyone else ever has.

B-Hops has a tough chin and is proven not to mark, just like Johnson post fight with Dawson.

Here's some provable facts. Calzaghe didn't fight Jones till he was shot. Funny how he couldn't get over here fast enough once Jones was shot but it was sooo impossible in 2002. What you call "evidence" I call propaganda!

How can you fight someone if the fight can't get made?

It was possible in 2008 because it made financial sense to Roy in 2008, and because there were no HBO-Showtime politics in the way in 2008, and no Warren in the way in 2008.

How is the hard, well documented fact that Showtime offered Roy $3.5 million to fight Joe in 2001, but HBO wouldn't allow it to happen, propaganda? Are you accusing Showtime of making the offer just so that I would be able to post about it 8 years later?

And how is the hard fact that Calzaghe repeatedly publicly called for Roy to make the fight in 2001 and 2002 propaganda? It didn't make any commercial sense for Roy at that time, partly because Joe wasn't a big name, and partly because of the Showtime/HBO political problem, that's fair enough, I have never accused Roy of ducking - but that isn't Joe's fault.

And as you are well aware, Joe did negotiate a deal to fight Hopkins in 2002, and contracts were even drawn up, before Hopkins pulled out at the last moment due to his animosity with King. But you won't even give him any credit for having done everything he could to make that fight with Hopkins in 2002. That shows you up as a completely irrational hater.

Furthermore, you still haven't produced a single piece of hard evidence to back up your claims. The fact that a fight wasn't made doesn't prove the fighters didn't want it to be made. Hundreds of fights have been killed by boxing politics, e.g. Williams-Clottey last year, which Williams and Clottey both wanted, but HBO killed.

If Hopkins was hurting him Calzaghe would have slown down you. Either watch the actual fight or think before you type. The exact opposite happened. I can't see any point in the fight when Calzaghe was hurt or in trouble of being stopped, including the flash knockdown which was worth fnck all. These idiots dont have a clue what lands and what doesnt.

What you're really saying is that they score it on the punches that they thought landed, and that you think they got it wrong. That's not the same as what you originally claimed.

As for shocking decisions, every single boxing expert who had Hopkins winning said it was extremely close, and no extremely close fight that doesn't go the way you think it should can be called a shocking decision. A shocking decision is when one fighter clearly won decisively, in the opinion of all boxing experts, and still lost on the official cards. That's not what happened here.

Because Hopkins only landed one or two clean punches per round. Calzaghe landed a lot more, and although they were less effective, they still cumulatively count for something. And I'm not going by Compubox. And instead of criticising me for "admitting" that Hopkins landed more effective punches, why not give me credit for being honest?

You're missing the point, I didn't say The Ring is right and you're wrong. I'm saying plenty of boxing experts gave it to Calzaghe, it wasn't just the judges. That doesn't mean you're wrong, it just means plenty of experts disagree with you, so you can't say it was just some incompetent judges. And even the experts who agreed with you said it was extremely close, so you can't call it a robbery, or a shocking decision.

It wasn't Lampley, it was Harold Lederman, and again, whatever you think of him, my point was simply that plenty of well qualified people didn't share your opinion, so you can't say it was just the incompetence of the official judges.
