No, it's a lacing method not a tape method. Anyone here who boxes know.
You tie the gloves in a way where you are pulling the padding on the glove back,
which makes the glove harder. the tape just insures the lacing doesn't come loose

          not true

Reyes and the Everlast MX both have a combination of horse hair and padding.

and while I respect your opinion Ice this is what they are referring to

see how high Barrera has the tape? Its essentially a trainer trying to pull down the back end of the glove in an effort to stretch the glove back, skinning it by the use of lacing in a certain and then using tape to pull it down as hard as they can.

there are no actual rules against it and essentially it's up to the commission officials interpetation of what they think is legal

lots of fighters do it, some more subtle than others, i do think it's cheating, it certainly makes the gloves harder, but it is something that is easily spotted, so each time you see a fighter with it, either the officials are incompetent and not doing their jobs or they're paid off to not notice or say anything, because it's clearly illegal and easy as hell to notice, so it's not like it's something that can hide, the only thing that separates the degree of if its effectiveness is how high the tape is up on the glove............ but skinning is nothing compared to loaded gloves, or drugging a fighter. from what i've seen, usually guys get cut as a result of skinned gloves......
This goes to show that Floyd > Cotto all day and everyday.

well, people must be skinning the foam gloves for nothing because they always do that in the dressing room before fights...it gives a much better grip, feels firmer around the wrist etc etc...I have fought in reyes numerous times and even though they used this method it NEVER physically moved the hair away from the knuckles...it just made the whole fist and wrist feel more secure...
