Hopkins, Golden Boy Push For a Calzaghe Rematch

That's a fair opinion, but your quote from Calzaghe also illustrates that it would be a different Calzaghe in a rematch as well, because he wouldn't underestimate the man twice. If Joe had a health issue in his fight with BHop I would take that into consideration. I'm not as unreasonable as you would think. I just hate to think that fight was tarnished with one guy not at 100%. Hopkins looked like a new man against Pav and he fought all 12 rounds. He tried to suck 10 minutes worth of wind against Joe and he wasn't producing nearly as much offense to be so tired between clinching and trying to buy time.
Thyroid or not, the two Taylor fights give me grounds for believing a rematch wouldn't be so very different from the first fight, taking everything into account. The second fight was pretty similar to the first, even though both fighters improved a little and changed tactics a little. Some styles just don't suit Hopkins, others do. I think Hopkins would still be forced to clinch a great deal in a rematch, and that it would be another ugly fight that Calzaghe would win by a close decision.
And we'll have to agree to disagree on whether faking low blows is cheating, to me it is.
And if Calzaghe were to come back, all Calzaghe fans and most neutrals would want it to be against Dawson, because that would be a much more exciting fight. It's nothing to do with the 0, Dawson is at least as much of a risk. He's also more deserving, because he doesn't disrespect his opponents. You don't convince someone to give you a rematch by dissing them. Look at how long it took Vargas to get a fight with DLH because he disrespected him.Last edited by Dave Rado; 03-05-2009, 11:02 AM.Comment

Thats because he couldnt.yes I thought hopkins looked great against pavlik, but pavlik isnt even close to being an elite fighter.Hopkins at 50% would still have smacked the piss out of him.It just seems like there is an agenda to take any credit for the win away from calzaghe, and thats garbage. If hopkins wasnt right, then he would have pulled out or postponed.Thats what experienced fighters who dont need the money, and are certain not to lose any kudos do.Hopkins is a smart enough guy to know this, and comes across very much as his own man,but his behaviour post fight and his lack of magnanimity just make him look like he is whingeing. Its a bit late after the fight to say ,oh i wasnt feeling right.isnt it funny how most fighters that have just lost have some sort of underlying medical condition, but they bravely soldier on!!! Is that toasted cow I can smell? If Joe had a health issue in his fight with BHop I would take that into consideration. I'm not as unreasonable as you would think. Sigh. Constant movement + throwing more means he was expending more energy, meaning the Hopkins we know should've been exhausted at some point in that fight. Someone tell me why BHop was so tired against Joe doing much less?Comment
