Mike Tyson is Underrated Historically

He did not duck Holyfield or Foreman, that is a load of bull****. First off, when Mike was champ, George hadn't done anything to deserve a title shot at that point. Tyson was going to fight Holyfield right after Douglas and then again right before he got incarcerated.

Since when is 20 fights (that included Cooney and Cooper) not enough for a former undisputed HW champ like Foreman to deserve a title? Holyfield fought him a year later without any major names added to his resume. The fact is Tyson didn't want any part of a Foreman or a Liston, even an older one.

There were certainly more competitive fights out there for him than Buster fricken Douglas.

I don't know how YOU would rate Tyson compared to the other greats,but its easy for me.Put ANY fighter in the ring with a prime Tyson and he knocks them out.Ali beats him 2 out of three times in a classic trilogy.That's because Ali was in a class of his own.He is the GOAT hands down.But no other heavyweight would have been able to deal with the speed, quickness, and power.A prime Tyson was far from a one dimensional brawler.He used the jab, he bobbed and weaved, he attacked the body, and he threw fast combinations.Plus, he had power in both hands.He also had a good chin.Now what ATG could stand up to that??? Foreman would have gave him hell.But I can imagine Foreman throwing one of those looping big hooks and Tyson slipping under it and throwing one of those devastating flurries to the body and finishing with a big hook up top.It would be a great fight,but Foreman would have a hard time hitting him.Can you imagine a 205 pound Joe Louis in front of him?I've seen Louis get dropped by far lesser men.What about a 195lb Rocky?It would be a mismatch.So...no, maybe Tyson hasn't achieved what the other greats have.Maybe he didn't have a long illustious career. And yes, he did end up crashing and burning.But with the exception of Ali, he kicks everyone in heavyweight history's ass.Now remember,I'm referring to the "86" version.The one that was well schooled under Cus and Rooney.Not the one punch intimidator that King ruined.

I would dispute that Lewis and Bowe would "murder" them. Maybe if they made the mistake of standing between Bowe and an all-you-can-eat buffet they'd get murdered (and possibly eaten) but that's about the only way.

I have to agree with you. It's sad that so many remember Mike in the later years of his career. In his prime, he'll be unmatch for decades, I honestly don't think there will ever be another like him, not in my lifetime at least.

I'll tell you a story.Tyson was suppose to fight ruddock in my hometown of Edmonton.a few weeks before the fight Tyson backed out of the fight claiming he had a COLD! A ****ing cold!!!but everyone knew he was ducking ruddock & wanted no part of him so instead of rescheduling the fight that ****in ***** Tyson fought buster Douglas instead in japan...it turned out to be a great decision because he got his ass kicked & lost all his titles.to make things worse he beat ruddock twice after.looked good on that overrated clown.face it Tyson fans he had a great 3-4 year run.Holyfield & lewis were 10 times better.lewis lost twice & avenged both losses,Holyfield sucks now but fought everyone.Tyson lost to Douglas,mcbride,danny Williams. That is brutal.when he stepped up he got crushed.for **** sakes he BIT holyfield ear...he was very good but not great.lewis was great,Holyfield was great,tyson was overrated.I'm a heavyweight boxing junkie & I have all their fights from pro debut until retirement.he could carry either Holyfield or lewis' jockstrap
