I'm seeing lots of hate now directed toward Juan Manuel Marquez, after a brilliant KO on Saturday against a young, world-class opponent, a former three title champion who had never been stopped before!
Every time Wlad wins, you'll find hateful, ridiculing threads in NSB for a week or two. When Joe Calzaghe retired after a successful career during which he won all his 46 fights, we saw many hate threads about him here.
When a fighter loses, people generally just ignore him - but after a brilliant performance, there's all this hate!

Agree on both posts.
The hate directed towards JMM has more to do with Pacman supports and Mayweather hater who think he would be picking on a smaller man.

Great discussion in this thread with some very good points from people. It's too bad it's only gotten to 4 pages while bull**** threads go 3Xs longer, easy.
On any given day I can read so much annoying **** on here that I have to remind myself that it's only the Internet and that it's the nature of sports to have rivalries.
One of the main differences, though, between boxing and, say, Lakers vs. Celtics, is that NBA teams actually go head to head and there's a clear winner when the game/series is over. In boxing, fighters can avoid each other and there can be controversial decisions. This leads to all kinds of arguments. And because people support their fighter so much, **** tends to hit the fan. You got people who can hold smart debates based on fighters' skills and then you got people who are just annoying fanboys who say whatever outlandish crap they want to "prove" their fighter is better. (And, yes, some people troll on here just for laughs because it's cheap entertainment for them.)
Then there's the racism. I admit, being a Laker fan since the '80s I hate the Celtics. I mean, Laker fans and Celtic fans are supposed to go at it. That's sports. But, honestly, there was a time that I would talk trash because I felt their team was mostly white. (I don't know, in a weird way, it kind of made them seem like a racist organization to me.) But I never took it beyond that. That is to say, I didn't start saying racist **** about white people to a white Celtic fans. (Danny Aigne sucks because he's Danny Aigne not because he's white... and you could only like that guy if he's on your team.)
But in this forum, some people take it too far. Their true racist feelings come out. And what's most annoying is you get the feeling that they would never say some of the **** they say in real life, especially to someone who could punch them in the face.
Just as annoying is the pro-nationalistic stance taken by some people. Just because there's dumbasses that post here doesn't mean everybody is a dumbass here. We can see when someone is biased on some ethnic pride **** and just because you say "I'm not biased" doesn't mean you're convincing us. We know you like certain fighters because they have the same background as you. And just because there's a lot of racism here doesn't mean that everybody automatically doesn't like your fighter because of his skin color. Believe it or not, some people actually don't like your boxer for other reasons! They don't like your hero because of the way he fights (including not fighting) or because he really is hyped with a suspect resume.
I just want to end this rant by saying I don't necessarily think it's a bad thing to like a fighter based on ethnic pride, as long as people are respectful with each other.

I find it surprising that some people here cannot respect even JMM. In his past two fights he stopped elite boxers who had never been stopped before.
I would have imagined that anyone who likes boxing would appreciate JMM's combination of skill and heart in the ring. I mean, how can anyone not appreciate this guy?
The higher a fighter rises, the more the losers hate him.

hate threads breed nuthugging threads.
nuthugging threads breed hate threads.
it's a neverending cycle.
reaction......counter-reaction......
example......if i'm talking to say 2501 on marquez-pacquiao.
we'll probably go back and forth , both making good points.
now same topic......me and say Goblin or say Mayan Sun.
he'll start saying pacquiao is nobody and marquez schooled pacquiao and was clearly robbed and pacquiao is so overrated or some ****.
then i'll start calling marquez overrated , he never did anything 'til recently , his resume is garbage or some other stuff.

Sometimes it's obsessive envious hatred, like bsrizpac for Calzaghe.
Sometimes it's racist jealousy, like with Flawless and mt102879.
