He was champion before and after the fight with Marquez, so he wasn't that over it. Certainly still good enough to become champion again in a very strong division.
Honestly though mate, if you're going to talk about someone fighting old fighters, you can't pretend that the same doesn't apply to another guy who made his name off fighting old legends. It's just how the sport works.
Trying to make Marquez' best wins seem bad because Medina was 32 is no different than saying Pac's best wins are ****e because Morales was flat out shot and couldn't even beat a third tier fighter in Diaz, whom he would have destroyed a few years previous. There really is no difference. Well, there is actually. Medina went on to win the world championship again whereas Morales got beaten by a hack and retired.
Look at it this way: Marquez is now a three division unified FW, SFW and now LW unified champion. He has wins as good as Pacquiao, Barrera and Morales having beaten Diaz, Casamayor, Barrera, Medina, Gainer, Sanchez etc, and has been considered in the top three P4P of the sport for a number of years now. That's pretty damn good and is not overrated.
No, his overall resume is not as good as Barrera's, but it is very, very close and you could even say it equals up due to never having been KO'd and having unified two divisions.
Edit: Or, just to be really picky, if you're going to list Ayala and Tapia as huge wins for Barrera without saying they were well past their best fighting age and definitely past their best fighting weight, then you shouldn't be saying that it applies to Marquez. You know?
You pick apart Marquez' resume by saying that Medina was old even though it was his best win, then list Ayala and Tapia as major wins for Barrera even though they were by far his best as a super Flyweight and never got close to a title win after the Barerra fight. So, why don't we just not list those as great wins for Barrera and Morales because both guys were at the end of their careers, over the best weight and never even got a title shot, let alone a win, after the fights? Or we could just recognise that they're actually all very close and all have amazing records and have fought many great fighters because that is the simple truth of the matter.Last edited by BennyST; 03-03-2009, 02:29 AM.Comment

Marquez has never been knocked out. All his losses (with the exception of his first fight which was a DQ) were controversial.Benny

All three of these guys are unreal fighters, all of these haven't ducked anyone like many others have.
I think it just comes down to personal taste, what style you prefer.Comment
