Wait, did he really only get $30K? Are you sure about that? Or do you mean $300,000?

Either amount and the fact that he went to Indonesia in John's own backyard to fight a guy who obviously has skills is saying a lot about JMM.

      $31500 to be exact.

Marquez was also stripped of his WBA title. In March 2006, Marquez traveled to Indonesia to face WBA featherweight champion Chris John, for just $31,500, and lost a unanimous decision.

I agree - until age catches up with JMM, which can't be that far off, as he's already slowing down. I don't want to see him badly hurt due to not knowing when to stop.

BTW, am I right in thinking that the Marquez brothers are the first brothers in history to have both been involved in great rivalries with top fighters of their era?

Thirty thousand dollars. In the record book, JMM lost that fight. Are you now saying Chris John was a better fight than an immediate rematch with Pac?

JMM needs to STFU, and stop sucking Pacquiaos nuts. What a ****ing cry baby. He needs to move on, his legacy is getting to be pretty good, he can move to 140, beat the living **** out of the top dogs, their and built a better legacy than Pac, if he wants to. He doesnt need Pac, nor Pac needs him.

He can move on, with his career and fight the best fights not involving Pacquaio and then if he stops begging for a fight, he might get it. He needs to understand that Pacquaio is doing better things than fighting him at this moment. I bet you after hatton and another big fight let say Cotto,Mosley or FLoyd, Pac will give JMM a fight in mid 2010, but he needs to STFU and move ****ing on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It wasn't that he took the John fight in preference to the Pac rematch. He priced himself out of the Pacquiao rematch (big mistake), then beat Salido and Polo, then was stripped of his titles because what should have been his next fight - against Rakkiatgym - went to purse bids and no one put up a bid, which is the worst possible reason to strip someone of a title! Then he took the fight with John in order to get a belt again, and the fact the he was willing to fight in Indonesia for peanuts does indeed show that he had guts, IMO.

Immediately after rejecting the purse split with PAC, we learned later on from Dan Rafael that Arum (who was still his promoter at the time) gave him first dibs on a Morales fight…and he too rejected the purse…it was after that rejection that Arum presented Morales a fight with PAC instead
