Perro, BMWM,
I'M TRYING TO TALK BOXING HERE BUT YOU GUYS ARE DISTRACTING ME WITH THOSE ICONS!!!
(not that I'm complaining though).
HBO always pushes the guy who they have the contract extension or future $ interest with. They have a game plan going in, to do so in concert with each other. It's not just the commentators - look back at the in-between round replays - almost EVERY one was a clip of Diaz landing. Until the final round that is, when the showed him staring up at the ceiling. But it was obvious they wish it was JMM instead. The commentators aren't so much to blame as Ross Greenburg (although they could be men and stamd up and say "no" to the pre-planned agenda BS) they're just doing what they are paid to do. The agenda is set by RG.
I had $ on JMM last night and was very happy to hear Manny S. say it the opening of the fight that Diaz is too young and strong for JMM. Right then I knew what the agenda was going to be for HBO, and also knew I had $ in the bank.
I have no problem with unbiased commentators.
I have no problem with biased commentators (like the W Sox, to use a baseball analogy, if any of you are familiar with their broadcast team.)
What I do have a problem with is biased commentators posing as unbiased, like the HBO crew always is. It stinks of "phony." And is an insult to viewers.
CB - Surgeon? Good analogy. I was thinking Accountant. Just kidding, I know it hasn't got the pizzazz of Assassin and other similar names, but he fights like his chosen out of ring career - he studies, he analyzes, then adds it all up to make the correct moves going forward. Perfect example last night, same as Pac fight #1; start at an even pace, see what's in front of you in the early rounds, process the information then use it intelligently as you proceed. He gets a lot of credit for being an excellent counterpuncher, but he's a ring-smart hombre, too.
