I respect the man known as Carlos Baldomir
Carlos Baldomir is underrated.

Mate, he wasn't just losing, he was getting completely owned. Those bastards screwed Clottey over! He wasn't able to get another title shot for nearly a decade! Sons of bitches!
Anyway, cool thread. Although I'm not really sure whether he is underrated or not. He is just a decent kind of champ that beat some talented, albeit infantile, other champ who was meant to whoop him. The Gatti win wasn't much I thought. Gatti was ****ed by then.Last edited by BennyST; 02-23-2009, 01:45 AM.Comment

Attrition is the best way to describe his fighting style. He could soak up some serious punishment and not get detered.Comment

Respect for Baldomir. I'm not going to argue whether Baldomir won or Judah lost (because there's a difference between the two). I will say Carlos made his country proud, made good money and can say he is a former Lineal World Welterweight Champion.
Not a great fighter, but a good one. From 1-10, he's a 7.Comment

to say he is underrated is to overrate him. He was a jorneyman who came from nowhere and went back there again. Not bashing him or anything but he will never be champion again, actually we will never see him on a descent eventComment

The man really is. This isn't a thread to make Floyd Mayweather look better, this is a thread to give Baldomir credit.
I'm not saying Baldomir is the best fighter ever, he's not really great either. However, people **** on him all the time. He is pretty much done and has been since losing to Vernon Forrest, but he is underrated.
People act like the Zab Judah fight was a fluke. He had a very determined gameplan when he kept going forward and kept landing his right hand that kept pummeling Zab.
Not only that, but the man was an UNDERDOG when facing Arturo Gatti! He not only proved the critics wrong, but he KOd Arturo Gatti "WITH A LEFT HOOK THAT ABSOLUETLY RUINS HIM"
He also had since 1999 not lost a fight. I'm not saying that Carlos Baldomir was an amazing fighter, but people act like he was a complete bum. Since 1999 he had beaten some decent prospects and even Joshua Clottey (I'm well aware that he was losing when Clottey got DQed thank you)
He's not amazing, but through hard work he became welterweight champion of the world. Respect that.
I said this the other day. Baldomir landed his right hand over and over on both Gatti and Judah and he did not do that by fluke, he had a game plan and he stuck to it. There will be some ignorant folk that say nah, he is just a bum, but that is because they dont understand or appreciate what they are watching.
Even when he did lose to Forrest,Floyd, they both ended up nearly running away from his rather than Boxing him.Comment

He was the underdog for Gatti at about +180. That's almost 2-1. Gatti maybe have been shot, but Baldomir deserves respect for overcoming the odds.
Except he had build his rank over a period of time by beating prospects and then working his way to the mandatory position. Yes he was supposed to be a pushover, but he wasn't. People act like he was a total bum, but he was ranked in the top 10 (at 10) according to The Ring prior to the Judah win.
I think it had to be more because Baldomir won it. He broke Judah down with the right hand after Judah had won some of the early rounds. Judah folds under pressure if people are still pressuring him after 4 rounds. He's also a ***** for the right hand.Respect for Baldomir. I'm not going to argue whether Baldomir won or Judah lost (because there's a difference between the two). I will say Carlos made his country proud, made good money and can say he is a former Lineal World Welterweight Champion.

He did not come from nowhere. He had built his status over a period of time and had an undefeated streak lasting 8 years. The fact that we won't see him anywhere again (which actually he became very close to becoming the WBC mandatory when he lost a very close decision in Belgium to Jackson Bonsu, a belgium fighter) is due to the fact he's 37. He's an old fighter who has been through a lot of fights. I'm talking about the 2006 version. That Baldomir is underrated.
I agree with most of this, but I think Forrest and Floyd badly outboxed him and didn't run away from him.I said this the other day. I don't think he is underrated or overrated for that matter....The guy did the best he could with what ability he had and most fans....well sane fans know that. I think it is fair to say Baldomir is aptly rated.Comment
