Its not just one day PRs decided to watch, no the military brought boxing to PR, and said "here....this is your new favorite sport, along with Basketball" (since Cubans had brought Baseball to the Island, and they got Roberto Celemente.

Second, I understand all you have stated about the military service and all. Trust me man, I'm a retired Tech Sargent in the USAF, born and bred in Ponce....and joining the military and serving my country is one of the best and proudest things I've ever done. And when I say my country, I mean the U.S. of A., because that's what we're part of. Every time they do a status census on the island, independence has never even come close to being an option. Why? Cause were not ******. All this talk about strategic points and such is moot because so are the D.R. and Cuba..which both are much larger and can sustain themselves with agriculture...which we don't have...and their standards of lives are nothing compared to ours...

So please...for future reference...when you talk politics...talk about your own feelings....not what you think or believe you might know about MOST people..

I'm proud to be an American and my children will have a better life and a chance to do something better because they are U.S. citizens. I'm proud of my heritage and culture and I know who I am and where I come from. Bring another question of status to us and see what happens...
Amen to this post! Green k for you! I didn't want to do it cause he's my boy, but facts are facts. Puerto Rico will never become independent. I mean the independent party was almost put aside completely last time we voted. I also want to say thank you for serving our country. I was also in the USAF...Staff Sergeant.

Puerto Rico is part of America, and is 'subject to U.S. jurisdiction and sovereignity'.

just because its a Commonwealth instead of a state doesnt mean its a seperate nation. the leader of Puerto Rico's government is the President of the United States, innit?

you know whos in the same exact position as Puerto Rico? The United States ****** Islands. They have their own Olympic team and everything too. but are you try to tell me the United States ****** Islands arent part of the United States?
being an american doesnt mean that you aint puerto rican anymore and your now american because you were born in america, moved to america or your country is territory of america. a puerto rican is still a puerto rican just like any other race is still the race they are. american isnt a race. i was born in PR and my family moved to america when i was a child in the 1980's. i became a citizen of the united states of america, but im still puerto rican

That's the attitude I was getting at earlier, that's what I like to see. You can embrace both sides of the coin, it doesn't have to be one or the other.
