Collazo is a good fighter but Berto struggling that badly with Collazo signifies to me that he needs more time before stepping into the ring against a top welterweight and I think if Berto had been in the ring that night against Cotto, he would have gotten knocked out. Berto's speed would give Cotto problems but after a few rounds of getting pounded to the body by Cotto, Berto starts gassing and gets sloppy then gets knocked out, that's how I see a Berto-Cotto fight going right now.

A Clottey fight is a toss up to me and would probably be a tough fight to score because Cotto would probably have the higher workrate but Clottey would probably be the more accurate and Clottey has the type of defense to neutralize a body attack which would give Cotto a lot of problems, he's a big welterweight which would wear on Cotto as the fight goes on and likes to put pressure on opponents which seems to bother Cotto, especially late in his fights, his pressure isn't as intense as Margarito's but it's sustained pressure nonetheless.
You see Clottey as a pressure fighter? See that's the one thing that makes me favor Cotto. From what I've seen of Clottey(and I could be wrong), he doesn't throw much and doesn't pressure.

I feel like Clottey would let Cotto dictate the pace, and if Cotto dictates the pace I think he wins. I think it'd be a fairly boring fight to be honest.

      Great post..

I honestly don't know how Cotto-Clottey would play out..cuz Clottey is a machine!..and he's HUNGRY!..that and his skill = Disaster!...Cotto would have to try and **** at Clotteys arms tho..and tire him out like that a'la Branco!..

Clottey best punches are left hooks and Cotto has a pretty tight defense for those..but Clottey can also throw a mean uppercut in the inside..and we ALL know what those do to Cotto..

I prefer that fight in June..But I guess I could settle for Berto or Cintron..cuz they're not big tests..and I'm sick of Cintron..sad to say..lol

He comes forward behind a high guard for the whole fight, it's not as intense as pressure from a guy like Margarito but it's pressure nonetheless, more the like pressure Ndou was giving Cotto.

I agree, and you brought up a good point, Clottey is good on the inside as well as the outside, he doubles and triples up on the left hook well and throws a good uppercut, he has pretty fast hands too.

Silencers you make great points and I see it a bit like you. On one end Berto seems like an easy fight because he's open. However, I think that Berto can hang because physically Cotto doesn't have the advantage that he holds over most guys. Also Berto goes right back to the body which is something that could slow Cotto down as well. I don't see him being able to bully around Berto as with others.

Collazo I thought fought an excellent fight. He's got top 10 talent and boxing ability but just has come up short.

Cotto doesn't have the physical edge against Clottey either, Clottey is a bigger guy but Berto is a pretty strong guy himself, short but strong. I think we need to give Berto another year or so before putting him in against a top welterweight, which Cotto still is, in about a year, I could be singing a different tune but right now, I just don't see Berto being a tougher fight than Clottey for anybody really. We'll just agree to disagree.

Yeah cool. I do agree with some of your points and you seem to agree with a few of mines. No problem.

He gets an A from me as he was Punch perfect, never made a single mistake and fought a controled disaplined fight, dismantled Jennings systematically then turned up the heat to finnish! He could have got an A+ if he had decided to take him out earlier - and he could have done but i think he was just trying hard to be perfect and not take any silly risks or make mistakes, he musta known the critics would be watching with a sharp eye after coming off a loss. As good as he was he didnt really make a big statement but the fight went as i thought it would

Its hard to really grade him, he didn't have anything in front of him to test him. He went out there and did what he was supposed to do. He had a very mobile target in front of him so he had to chase the guy around. He waited, picked his shots well, landed at a very high percentage and did a great job of finishing his opponent.

No idea to really test the mental or physical effects the Margarito fight had on him. We only know he still knows how to fight.
