Joe Calzaghe Felt Chad Dawson Wasn't Ready Yet

The understatement of the century. Who has Dawson beat?

Thes young fighters are too money grubbing, defend your goddamn belts!!! Do something! Then EARN the shot at the best.

And yet despite that, Taylor, while beating him easily, did not look anywhere near as dominant against him as Calzaghe had done. Calzaghe put on a superb boxing exhibition in that fight.
Giving Joe credit for finally stepping up after 40 fights and fighting Jeff Lacy... I will give him credit for looking good that night against Jeff Lacy. Although there was an injury involved and Joe was in his home town; it was inevitable that he would win.

He felt Dawson was not yet a big enough star to make the fight. The money wasn't there for a fight with Dawson, and Calzaghe wasn't willing to wait around for the money to develop. He wanted to go out on top without a loss on his record. [details]

If Dawson had done his duty and knocked out Johnson and Diaconu, he may well have gotten a big money fight with Calzaghe. Performing poorly, then a ducking a mandatory is not a good way of creating a reputation. Dawson only has himself to blame.

It wasnt worth it if it lost. If he comes out of retirement to fight then he has more excuses.

Joe Calzaghe is making excuses. Better for his legacy is he just shuts up now (with his carefully constructed, perfect record) and allows history to be the judge. He wants to be PBF so bad it's pitiful...what a poor thing to aspire to (for someone of his talents and achievements) ...

i never heard of MARVIN HAGLER turning down a challenger because of money, boxing has surely changed.

                what happened to being great?

man 4real.... Now days..retiring undefeated means more than who you fought. to me clearing out the divisions top ten and unifying the division means your the best...suffering adversity and fighting through it. Getting knocked down a few and getting up to fight hard and win...... Not hand picked opponents and past prime names or bum building.. Now days they got it easy...

HALF THE FIGHT so there was plenty of time left for lewis

lennox had taken the fight over by the fifth round and was starting to dominate
and when lewis found his rythem,he usually didn't step out of it

lewis's jab did that to vitali's eye and remember that
i think it was more like a straight right...

and Dawson already beat ex undisputed light heavyweight champs in Tarver and Glenn Johnson.

At this point, both can beat RJJ....
