You are absolutely right. I haven't read the thread, I only looked and saw that one liner about Joe fighting old fighters. Do they not realize Joe is 37 years old in a couple of weeks?

But anyway, you are correct. It's a waste of time. It's unbelievable how bitter some people are about Joe Calzaghe. I wouldn't be surprised if they get up each morning, drink a bottle of vinegar to make them pull sour faces, beat their wife or dog up, put on a Calzaghe video, then come on here and take all their anger out on Joe, who, seemingly, has ruined their lives.

Straight up... these people are ******s. And I'm sorry to insult anyone with learning / mental disabilities when I say that. It's just a very fitting description.

        No.

Of course the Lacy fight turned out badly for him.

Joe is sort of a lie but Kessler couldn't prove it under those circumstances............Kessler and B-Hop beats Joe IF he ever fights them again.....thats my opinion!

Joe would have made much more fighting Chad in Wales..Dawson was more than willing to go.
exactly......joe's just talking bull****, and his fans are too unobjective to see it.......lacy wasn't proven but joe still fought him. its safe to safe dawson is more "skilled" than lacy was, even before the calzaghe loss.

You're the one who isn't being objective. Calzaghe didn't say that throughout his career the only fighters he ever fought were proven, so why are you bringing up Lacy and Manfredo? He said that at the very end of his career when he was ready to retire, the only fights that would make him excited enough to make him want to have one more fight would be a big name who had proven himself at the highest level. He said he'd have continued for a Pacquiao-type fighter, but that Dawson is still on his way up, and hasn't reached that level yet. If he had still been a year from retirement, then Dawson would have been his next fight, but he was ready to retire, and he didn't feel excited enough about facing Dawson to postpone his retirement in order to fight him. That's all. So your comparisons with Lacy, Manfredo, etc. are silly.

As for all the hate posts in this thread, IMO, true boxing fans and haters are mutually exclusive concepts, you can't be both. That includes the hate posts about Dawson and Hopkins as well as the ones about Calzaghe. True boxing fans respect all three fighters, while not being blind to fair criticism of any of the three, provided they are rational and are delivered with the respect due to all top class boxers, which all three are.

                    LOL

Why kind of a b*tch would make an excuse that lame??????????????

At least Chad had the balls to fight Glenn Johnson..
This is revisionism. The painful divorce was not the reason for the postponement, the reason for the postponement was a serious back injury. No boxer can fight with a back injury. He didn't cancel, he postponed, but Johnson then got the opportunity to fight Jones instead, and took it. You can't blame Johnson for pulling out in the circumstances, but it was Johnson who cancelled, not Calzaghe. Neither fighter ducked the other, it was just one of those things that it fell through. Calzaghe said it was the low point in his career when that fight fell through, because he thought he'd never get the big fights after that. He spoke a lot around that time about his frustration about not getting the big fights.

Your hate shows you up as not being a true boxing fan.

Bernard Hopkins spent much of his middleweight career without a promoter and never enjoyed a good relationship with the ones he worked with. Don King controlled the other middleweight champs and wisely kept them away from Hopkins who he couldn't control and refused to sign with him. When Tito moved up from 154, he and King had outlined a plan where he'd fight William Joppy at 160 and Roy Jones at a catchweight. When Hopkins realized that - now 36 - he truly was going to be blackballed, he beat his chest, showing up and disrupting every press conference claiming there could be no true tourney without him. But he had to sign with King. That's what he did. These are facts, google away.
                      HI IMDAZED

I've been thinking more about this and I still don't really get it. I've googled but couldn't find anything that helped me understand it either. In 2002, Hopkins said he wanted to fight Calzaghe, Calzaghe said he wanted to fight Hopkins. Hopkins verbally agreed to a deal brokered by Showtime, whereby he would be paid $3 million. Contracts were drawn up. Then he suddenly said he wouldn't fight for less than $6 million, and pulled out when Showtime said no to that. Are you saying that when he agreed to $3 million, he didn't know how much of his purse would go to King, and he only doubled his purse demand after finding that out?

And the other thing I don't get is that Hopkins took a meaningless mandatory against Morrade Hakkar for far less money instead of the Calzaghe fight - surely just as high a percentage of that much lower purse would have been taken by King?
