If he doesen't probably Abraham or Sturm will.

Duddy/Pavlik has been in the works forever, it is not Pavlik's fault that Duddy got his face torn up and made the original date impossible. If the fight was agreed upon in principal it is only appropriate and honorable that Pavlik give him that shot, after all Duddy did not and has not lost a fight since the agreement.
Ah come on man, I don't believe that you actually believe you own statement. LOL. BTW Gold mine from what a couple thousand Irishman in Boston/New York.

John's face getting mangled didn't stop the fight going ahead, John look horrible in that fight. To be the best you have to fight the best, it shouldn't matter who is a ''Gold Mine'', if your not on that level your not on that level. Give me one name Duddy has beaten to get this fight. Like I said I am a Duddy fan, living in NYC I've been to a lot of his fights. But getting a title shot, unreal and just bad for Pavlik at this stage. He lost a lot of respect for the Hopkins fight, and even a win over Duddy isn't a win for Pavlik but a loss to boxing fans who will be asked to pay 50 bucks to see this fight.

Instead of crying about the yanks on this board...like a *****...why don't you just admit Edison Miranda was not the same fighter in the rematch.

He had been KTFO by Pavlik and almost stopped again by Alan Green.
Come back when you've finished trolling. Untill then please:

John Duddy is as deserving of a title shot as many of the guys on Abraham's resume and as deserving as either Lockett or Rubio.

John Duddy would, imo, beat Sebastian Demers, El**** and Ayala and probably Marquez as well. I would favor him over Lockett and would say a fight between he and Rubio would be pretty evenly matched.

None of the guys above beat anybody noteworthy to get their title shots, so why is it that John Duddy needs to have 3 big wins to deserve his shot?

          • I really hope that this fight gets made. Arum needs to stop worrying about guys like John Duddy and fight AA for the undisputed middleweight championship. I dont think that Pavliks ducking AA so he should be willing to sign the contract if Arum would make one. If this fight does happen im gonna go with Abraham by either KO or a close but clear decision but the fight wont be easy for him.

That fight could go either way. To have any chance against AA, Pav needs to lay out a few bums and get his Mojo back. Imagine he lost the titles, he would be doing that anyway and would not have the option of the biggest fight north of Welter. Mentally he has no shot until he gets a few under his belt. I think it will happen just not in early 09.
I wouldn't t have a problem at all if Arum were to say Pavlik needs two tune-ups first, and then he'll fight Abrahams. But what he said is that Abrahams doesn't bring any money to the table and that's the reason for not fighting him. And then Bat said he was amazed that Arum would openly admit that money came before legacy. And then Pullcounter said that if he was a boxer, he'd like his promoter to put his earnings before legacy. And then I questioned that and said that the guy's already a millionaire, and should be putting legacy before money. I don't think my questioning that makes me an extremist at all - you've just taken my post completely out of context.

I agree but the point he makes is sound and can be applied to Lockett and Rubio also. It just points to one of the key problems in boxing; people who are over matched getting title shots too early.

Arum is gonna try to squeeze as much as he can while Pavlik is still a viable name. But he cant protect him forever. Kessler tried running away from Calzaghe as long as he could, and when they fought, it was a career killer for Kessler.
What? Kessler gained huge exposure and greatly enhanced standing and respect as a result of the Calzaghe fight, which is why he's still ranked #1 in the division despite having only fought nobodies since then. What is killing his career is bad management, matching him against nobodies instead of genuine contenders.

Second, the point I was making is that since Pavlik lost to Hopkins all the boxing fanboys who were swinging from his nuts when he was knocking out everyone in front of him are now calling him overrated. Abraham will lose at some point and all of those proclaiming him as the second coming will be singing the same song, how he never fought anyone, overrated, hype job, etc...
No-one is calling Abraham the second coming. They're just saying he's by far the most meaningful fight for Pavlik right now, has a realistic chance to win in the opinion of many boxing experts, and should be given his shot. All your talk about fanboys etc. is just silly posturing.

A fight with Abraham is much bigger than a fight with Duddy.

Most of us are not saying Duddy doesn't deserve an eventual title shot, just that the two most established fighters in the middleweight division, Abraham and Pavlik, should fight each other, so then we'll have a real champion! In the meantime, Duddy should fight another contender like Griffin, Demers, Ayala or Golovkin, who he already lost to in the amateurs, instead of fighting Pavlik.

Pavlik should not be considered the universally recognized middleweight champion unless he defeats Abraham.
