Why Joan Guzman is Hype and Gets No respect!

Do you realize that of his first 14 fights, now keep in mind that is half his career fights, 8 of his opponents had no wins (0).

Of those 14 they have 107 losses combined.
Most of those were in his country against his people.

Since 2002 he has fought twice a year (with the exception of 2006 (3).
    2007 (1 fight) 2008 (1 fight).

I need not mention the Nate Campbell disgrace.(which made me dislike him in the first place).

Last 5 opponents have a combined 28 losses.

Biggest win against Jorge Barrios was a SPLIT decision win.
Soto a good fighter has 5 losses.

Has not fought any current lightweight contender ranked 20 or better.

If anyone wants to give him GREAT or super talented status keep these things in mind.
It is going to be March 2009 in a couple of weeks and still no news of an upcoming fight. Call it hate if you want (if he is as talented as those believe) then with great talent comes great criticism.

          Ha, representin your boy.

Guzman has all the talent in the world, he can be really frustrating for me to watch though.
Sometimes I just want him to go for the kill, but he's content to outspeed guys all night long.
He wins, so I reserve judgement, but damn that boy can be frustrating.

I get what your saying, from watching his last fight, I thought to myself, the dude doesn't belong at 135 (Although, he couldn't even make 135). He is more then capable of beating everyone in that division but his power isn't there and people might not find him entertaining because of it. I'd rather him go back to 130 and run that division

How do you run a division if you never even run the top 20?

Boxrec is not as reliable as you might think. They do not have a record of every boxer in the world, and certainly not every fight of the past 10-15 years.

It's probable that Guzman's opponents had more fights than boxrec claims, but that the details are not available because they were small shows in the Dominican Republic.

Either way, you shouldn't judge Guzman (or anyone else) by the standard of opposition he faced early in his career. It's what happens in the more important fights that really matters.
