Why Joan Guzman is Hype and Gets No respect!

Boxrec is not as reliable as you might think. They do not have a record of every boxer in the world, and certainly not every fight of the past 10-15 years.
It's probable that Guzman's opponents had more fights than boxrec claims, but that the details are not available because they were small shows in the Dominican Republic.
Either way, you shouldn't judge a Guzman (or anyone else) by the standard of opposition he faced early in his career.Comment

Either way, you shouldn't judge Guzman (or anyone else) by the standard of opposition he faced early in his career. It's what happens in the more important fights that really matters.
Early in his career consists of 14 fights which is HALF his career.
But I also mentioned his last 5 fights and the 28 losses. 1 2008 and 1 2007.Comment

Well said....though I give Nate alot of respect ( he is old school) and has fought better comp than Guzman, including Diaz.....I would love to have seen what Guzman could do with some of the fighters Nate beat..IE , Funeka, Juan Diaz,Isaac Hlatshwayo, Casamayor.Comment

One guy is 40-0, and has basically beaten a bunch of clubfighters. Then he beats 3 prime HOFers.
Another guy is 18-0 and has beaten a bunch of clubfighters. Then he beats 2 prime HOFers.
Who has the better resume? It's the first guy. Why? Because it doesn't matter that he faced more clubfighters, what matters is that he faced and defeated more elite opposition.
I disagree with part of your post, not all of it.Comment
