Looks like another british boxing fan circle jerk . Dream on this will never happen.
When Michael Jennings beats Miguel Cotto, what historical upsets is it comparable to?

You know, this thread sounds a lot like GLeon, whenever he dislikes a fighter he picks him to win, to blow away the other guy saying he's no good, only to bash him if the fight goes the distance or turns out to be a close one, God forbids if he loses.Comment

He is English!! So the only adopting going on is Americans adopting a Cotto as one of their own!the bristish are adopting this bum as their own, anybody seen him box?
is he any good?
if jennings upsets miguel
it wouldnt be bigger than margarito-cotto....
One thing which isn't necessarily understood across the pond is "British" tends to be a term for Olympics (taking in four countries England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales) I mean you wouldn’t call a Scotsman or a Welshman British they would take your head off!! Kind of like calling you lot all "North Americans". Anyway geography lesson over.
As for Jennings, he has beaten decent domestic level fighters and probably win the European title (as he has already beaten the current champ Rafal Jackiewicz on points). His best wins have probably been the following off the top of my head.
Rafal Jackiewicz
Bradley Pryce
Takaloo
Ross Minter
None of these names are going to frighten Cotto one bit, however he has to believe he can do it. I don’t care what Cotto is saying, is he really taking Jennings seriously? I don’t think so, it SHOULD be a routine night for him (a bit like the Gomez fight). I think he will expect (and may get) a Pavlik vs. Lockett type result. Jennings needs to box and move and hopefully catch Cotto with something early to make him think a bit, he may not be a big ****er but I don’t think Cotto's chin is filled with granite (I am not saying he is chinny by the way). I think if Cotto is expending more energy than he has to it will play into Jennings hands if the fight goes late, Jennings just has to survive the opening four rounds. All the stuff to do with the Margarito fight (about his hands and so on) clouds the fact that the reason Cotto lost was he ran out of steam, he was schooling him up until the 6th (I think), therefore a possible ***** in his armour maybe?
I think Cotto will come out blasting, so Jennings has to be ready to be elusive and not give him a static target (like Margerito did). If he can pop his jab then stay just out of range he will make Cotto reach for it more and he could counter. I think the problem will be Cotto will cut the ring off and start to unload and its whether Jennings is physically strong enough to smother that work or his footwork is good enough to get out of trouble.
Trying to give a balanced view of things Cotto has fought at the higher level and possesses more power and shot selection than Jennings, on the negative side I think his stamina, maybe his mental state and possibly his chin could be questioned (could being the operative word). Jennings is untested and unproven at this level, he hasn’t faced anyone of Cotto's undoubted class or being in a fight of this level of media attention, he does have height and reach advantages which he will need to exploit, against is whether he has the physical strength and power to hold off Cotto and whether he truly believes he can do a number on him.
I think if Jennings can go the distance whatever the result that will be an achievement. I wish him all the luck in the world and to come back to England in one piece. I would love him to win as it would be a real fairy tale story, like lockett he is a really down to earth friendly guy who deserves the nation behind him!
Does anyone know when the weigh in is?Comment

No Americans are adopting Cotto as their own. That is a false statement. You can be a fan of a fighter who has a different nationality than you without claiming them as one of your countrymen. If you did want to get technical, PR is a commonwealth of the United States. Either way no one is calling Cotto an American.
EDIT: The poster you quoted is Puerto Rican.Comment

Do you support anyone not from Great Britain? Or do you just root for a nation.I'm thinking... Vietcong TKO9 USA? Will it be that big of an upset? It is a bigger upset/win than Ricky Hatton's over Kostya Tszyu, right? And definately a bigger upset/win than Joe Calzaghe's over Jeff Lacy? I wonder where Cotto will go after this loss.
I can't wait for this one!Comment
