Big fan of Vargas here, he beat Campas, Winky and Quartey, logical choice was Tito or Oscar. I think roids really killed his career and he was never the same after Tito, still he accomplished a lot.

I gave him a 7. I liked his fight style early on he was great. Against Tito the low blows defintely slowed him down and shifted momentum. The car accident he had combined with the wars he fought early on took all the steam out of him. the last great fight he fought was the first loss to Mosley. I still remember that eye geez! He still wanted to continue even though he couldn't see. it was the owrst thing I had seen since Holy head butted Rahman and he grew a second head on his brow. ODLH TKO was big factor in Vargas down spiral IMO he got nailed for roids and lost that fight when he had Oscar running and on his heels in the early rounds. ODLH nailed him with that left hook ironically the same punch that he got nailed with by Tito and Mosley later on. He was always slow in pulling back his jab and was exploited for it by the TOP 3 in the WW divison ODLH, Tito and Mosley. He ahd soem great wins and even his losses to the three mentioned were very entertaining. Like I sad 7 for Fernando....Lefty

it was very sad at the end of the fight. too early for him and his trainer needed to stop that fight early.

A great fighter but just had poor guidance.

He got fed to the 'lions' too early. How someone can fight trinidad, quartey and Wright within their first 20 fights is beyond me.

Could have gone a lot further if his career was managed correctly.

Who was his promoter in his early pro days?

Just imagine what he could have done if he had say.... 10 or 15 more fights before the Trinidad fight. He'd of had 30 to 35 fights, he'd had to have been around 26, closer to his PHYSICAL prime.

                    Just a damn shame.

looking back at the past and yeah vargas had a gift and he was fearless.

with bad luck he fought one of the best fighter of this decade in trinidad in which came out as one of the greatest and most brutal fights i have seen.

kudos to vargas, he gets a 6.5.
