Yeah Paul's resume ain't much. He is either 10 on the top 10 P4P list or not even on it but he isn't to blame. Notice, Paul finds an opponent fast...problem is top names don't want to step up

Clottey vs. Williams would've been a nice one, but once again, we can thank Bob for dropping the ball.

By the end of the year you're going to be telling yourself what was I thinking when I made this thread.
I'll be more than happy to bump this thread using those exact words if Paul proves anything to me this year. But I have a feeling after Wright he'll go on to fight some other fringe contender or journeyman, and his fans will once again chalk it up to nobody wanting to fight him, therefore he's the ultimate badass.

He needs to just start calling people out, the only person I've heard him call out was Margarito multiple times, and we all knew Tony didn't have any intrest in fighting Paul again.

The Pavlik **** was funny, but who honestly thought it would happen?

You're seriously underrating Wright.... You're making it sound like he's just a stepping stone for Williams, and Williams will walk all over him.

I would agree. 55 fights. fought a ton of guys. great skills great defense.

The only minus is the inactivity but I don't think Wright has forgotten his skills by any stretch.

When I heard about the whole Paul vs Pavlik I was like WTF! There tryin to get rid of Paul.

Honestly, when I think about Paul Williams. I picture this giant walking threw town and as soon as he leaves, Cotto, Quintana, Margarito, Cintron come out their hut celebrating

All Wright has to do is work on his right hook, and he's set for the fight. Williams is a sucker for the right hook.

Well when you factor in that Wright is 37 years old, will be inactive for nearly 2 years by the time fight night rolls around, has shown very little intrest in the sport of boxing for nearly 2 years, and has pretty much been doing nothing but eating Krispy Kremes since the Hopkins loss.....it doesn't look good for him.

Though I hope you're right, I'd love nothing more than for Winky to kick Paul's ass and end this NSB bandwagon he has, once and for all.

Williams is a sucker for every punch. Paul better stay in the outside and not give Winky any sort of range...he could possibly win based on workrate. Too bad sometimes Paul don't fight like a tall person

Let's look at Paul's last 5 fights, shall we?...........

Verno Phillips - Solid fighter, but nothing more than that. Phillips had 10 losses when Paul climbed into the ring with him, was 39 years old, and his best win was a close split decision over Cory Spinks. Williams TKO's him in 8. Who didn't see it coming?

Andy Kolle - The definition of a tin can. Had a 17-1 record against less than stellar opposition, and his best win was who? Matt Vanda? Williams TKO's him in 1. It was to be expected.

Carlos Quintana - Solid former World Champion, not long ago he was favored to be Cotto when they fought. Had a 25-1 record at the time of their rematch, his best win was an unexpected UD schooling of hot young prospect Joel Julio. Williams TKO's him in 1, not what we expected at all.

Carlos Quintana - See above. Only this time, Quintana kicks Williams goofy looking ass around the ring for the full 12 rounds and takes his title. Williams loses a pretty wide UD. (I scored it 116-112)

Antonio Margarito - Not exactly the world beater he was hyped up to be, eh? Was 34-4 when he met Williams, pre-Cotto, and pre-handwrap controversy. Williams wins a clearcut UD and takes Tony's title.

Now who did he fight before them? Santos Pakkau? Walter Matthysse? The blown up corpse of Shamba Mitchell?

And who is Paul fighting next? The bloated corpse of Winky Wright, a guy who Hopkins walked through in 2007. A guy who hasn't had a fight in almost 2 years by the time April rolls around.

Is this the record of a man who, according to Max Kellerman (and many fans here) "has two weight divisions paralyzed with fear"?

                    I certainly don't think so.
Umm... Hopkins didn't do anything close to walking through Wright.

You're completely right, Wright has been completely silent, he was calling out numerous people a short while after the Hopkins fight, but after that we heard nothing of him. I just feel Wright has the natural skills and smarts that don't go away with ring rust. He's too smart to just let himself be trapped into a fight that would suit Williams. If Williams wins it's on work rate, and nothing else, IMO. A prime Wright wouldn't even have Williams in his radar.
