It was a pretty damn clear victory for Hopkins from my point of view. Hopkins struggled with Winky in a few of the middle rounds, but other than that Wright played into Hopkins' gameplan all night long. He let him dictate the pace, he let him rough him up, and he let him smother his output.

See that isnt exactly ridiculous though. We just have a boxing culture these days where when a guy losses he is vulnerable, sucks, and will never be the best.
Sugar Ray Robinson was a better fighter than Jake Lamotta, Jake still beat him fair and square in one of their fights. Yes, Quintana beat Williams. I am sure Williams has learned a lot from that loss, and we all know Williams would take him in a rubber match.
Paul Williams doesnt have three divisions frozen with fear, but he was frozen out of WW, and at JMW and MW he has the potential to beat a lot of top fighters.

Let's look at Paul's last 5 fights, shall we?...........

Verno Phillips - Solid fighter, but nothing more than that. Phillips had 10 losses when Paul climbed into the ring with him, was 39 years old, and his best win was a close split decision over Cory Spinks. Williams TKO's him in 8. Who didn't see it coming?

Andy Kolle - The definition of a tin can. Had a 17-1 record against less than stellar opposition, and his best win was who? Matt Vanda? Williams TKO's him in 1. It was to be expected.

Carlos Quintana - Solid former World Champion, not long ago he was favored to be Cotto when they fought. Had a 25-1 record at the time of their rematch, his best win was an unexpected UD schooling of hot young prospect Joel Julio. Williams TKO's him in 1, not what we expected at all.

Carlos Quintana - See above. Only this time, Quintana kicks Williams goofy looking ass around the ring for the full 12 rounds and takes his title. Williams loses a pretty wide UD. (I scored it 116-112)

Antonio Margarito - Not exactly the world beater he was hyped up to be, eh? Was 34-4 when he met Williams, pre-Cotto, and pre-handwrap controversy. Williams wins a clearcut UD and takes Tony's title.

Now who did he fight before them? Santos Pakkau? Walter Matthysse? The blown up corpse of Shamba Mitchell?

And who is Paul fighting next? The bloated corpse of Winky Wright, a guy who Hopkins walked through in 2007. A guy who hasn't had a fight in almost 2 years by the time April rolls around.

Is this the record of a man who, according to Max Kellerman (and many fans here) "has two weight divisions paralyzed with fear"?

        I certainly don't think so.
Ey guy lets go through the list of fighters who rejected offers from Camp Williams.

        Miguel Cotto

        Shane Mosley

        Kelly Pavlik

The Bringer, how about a wager on the Williams/Winky fight. Loser gets lifetime ban from Boxing Scene.

Put together a list of who Winky fought. I don't want to think you're just knowledgeable about Williams.
How do you see the Williams-Wright fight going?

You need to watch the fight again if you truly believe that. I scored the fight a draw.

That fight wasn't clear cut in the least, much less Hopkins walking through Wright.

You can try and spin the slow pace of the fight as Hopkins executing his game plan, but the truth of the situation is that he was holding on because he was tired. If I recall, there was a round when Hopkins clenched more times than he punches. That is not smothering Wrights work rate, that holding on because you are too tired to punch.

The fight was awful. Wright looked slow and blown up at the weight, Hopkins looked old and tired.

                  1. Mayweather didn't regect Paul. Paul ain't even a big enough name
                  2. Clottey wanted to fight Paul, so where are you getting at.
                  3. Yes, Cintron didn't want any part of Paul. That one was atleast a given

I disagree on one part only... Bernard did NOT walk through Winky!
Many people felt he won, including me.. Nard had to head butt the whole night thats how much Winky was giving him problems.

I believe I scored it 116-112 for Hopkins, though it's been a while since I've rewatched it. However I've seen it multiple times and my scoring has never really changed.

But you are right about Hopkins, he did look like **** in that one, as did Wright. It's Hopkins most boring fight by far.
