It's easy to bandy around terms like paying the price but sometimes they have to protect people from themselves.
Ring deaths were one of the reasons that went away from same day weigh ins.

The case is so ironic I can't even find the words to describe it.
In retrospect it would've been much better for J Diaz to win, it would've been better for boxing. I was feeling slightly dirty for cheering for Campbell in the fight against the awesome Diaz, and now I feel like I need a few showers.

The thing is medically neither are ideal.
But for championship type fights, regardless of same day or day before weigh in's., I honestly feel both fighters weights and physical condition should be monitored closely for at least a month in advance.
The issue is fighters are gonna break the rules and jeopardize their health no matter what, I just feel it could be worse with same day weigh ins.

To me there is more harm in having a fight a day after the weigh in, we have seen so many times where one fighter is grossly way bigger than the other fighter, Clottey/Corrales, Gatti/(Insert Name Here), the list goes on and on.
Here is a good article on it http://www.boxing-monthly.co.uk/content/0008/two.htm
The thing is I like two tier weigh ins, and physical monitoring the most.
Guys are always gonna try to cheat either way though.
I honestly see more harm in same day weigh ins but if monitored effectively, they might be possible.
