  • Bernard Hopkins is Not Rushing To Fight Again, If at All

After Bernard Hopkins put on a masterful performance last October in his dominating decision win over Kelly Pavlik, many began to wonder if the veteran boxer would return for one last fight or walk away on a very high note. Hopkins had a few good options after the victory, but most of them have dried up in the last few weeks. A rematch with Roy Jones Jr. was shot in the chest when Joe Calzaghe pounded Jones for almost twelve rounds of their fight last November. Calzaghe announced his retirement last week, which kills the possibility of Bernard avenging his close decision loss from last April. There are still some choices like Chad Dawson, a Jermain Taylor trilogy, Mikkel Kessler or moving up to win a cruiserweight title. [details]

It's not surprising. He's in the same boat that Calzaghe was in prior to retirement : There's just nothing left as far as a big, meaningful fight is concerned. Hopkins has done it all, the only thing I could possibly see being worth his time would be a fight with Dawson, or capturing a Cruiserweight title. Other than that, there's nothing.

And major props to him not bending on the possibility of a Jones rematch. How many other fighters do you know who would pass up on the opportunity to avenge a loss like that one, against a shot Hall of Famer who you would easily beat? All the while making a pretty decent paycheck at the same time.

I'm really going to miss this guy.

Even if he lost to Dawson, Chad would never be able to hold a candle to B-Hop. Let's be realistic.

He should be able to retire now wit no problem. I'd like to see him own Dawson tho.

Obviously, Hopkins is an ATG, but Dawson can be a good LHW.

Dawson is a good fighter, but he's still a bit too green for an opponet like Hopkins. If it ever went off, I'd be very confident that Hopkins would son him. Confident like I was in the Tarver, Wright, and Pavlik fights.

Dawson is a very good LHW, but against Hopkins I don't think he would have much of a chance.

If he wants money he should fight Trinidad and he can still finish his career on a high note.
This fight can end two careers win or lose.
