Its it me or is British commentary so boring and unenthusiastic , i love lampley and atlas.
British commentary vs American Commentary

It comes to something when the "US vs UK" debate is being extended to a bunch of ****s who talk over the top of the action.
Incidentally, while I like a lot of Fat Yank commentators, the two you mentioned - Lampley and Atlas - are total ****wads. -

Lampley is the voice of boxing thoComment

The British commentary is almost always better than American.
However, the best broadcast team of all, namely Steward, Lampley and the aging Merchant, is American.
Otherwise, all the British commentators are better, more professional and intelligent than the Americans. I especially like the Setanta, Sky and ITV teams. There doesn't seem to be a really bad commentator among them, although Bunce can be annoying when he nuthugs Haye.
Among American commentators, Matthews, Charles, Kellerman, Lewis, Bernstein, Farhood and Atlas all suck, while Tessitore, Sheridan, Ricardo and Papa are okay.Comment

HBO
Jim Lampley is the best in the business, no one brings as much passion for the sport to that mic as he does.
Say what you will about Max Kellerman, but he is a knowledgeable person who is a fan first and a commentator second, and that's a good thing.
Larry Merchant is creepy.
You'd be hard pressed to find someone with a better mind for the sport to have on commentary than Emmanuel Stewart. It's happened more than once where he's correctly predicted the outcome of a fight to almost the very minute.
Lennox Lewis has the experience as a fighter to put himself in that situation and visualize what he'd do. Usually it's a double jab.
Showtime
Steve Albert almost like Lampley, just not on the same level. Good voice to listen to especially when there is action going on.
Al Bernstein is smart and informative, and not nearly as creppy as Merchant.
Jim Grey is a prick.
ESPN
I really like Teddy Atlas, I know not many people are too big on him here at these forums. But he's a guy you could learn a lot from and his "keys to victory" are very informative.
Bob Papa is very good and will eventually make a great successor to Lampley should he ever step away from the main stage. I really like his work on FNF and BAD.
BTW, yes I have heard Sky Sports commentary before and I just didn't like it. It's basically just a matter of where you come from I guess. The American HBO team is by far the best in my opinion, so don't get on my ass about it. If you like Sky Sports or whatever, fantastic. None of us are either right or wrong. So let's not turn this into a US vs UK circle jerk.Last edited by Madvillain; 02-08-2009, 02:21 PM.Comment

I cannot stand British commentary. You watch ITV coverage and if a trainer swears or uses the F.uck word, the prick commentators apologiese for anyone offended-despite the fact that its arounf 10:30pm and way past the watershed. John Rawling does it all the time.Comment

That does my nut in! And Rawling is just PumpComment
