  • Would Juan Manuel Marquez Have Beaten Manny Pacquiao If.............

If he would of accepted the immediate rematch, instead of taking a garbage offer against Chris John ? i think he would have Manny Pacquiao was still one dimensional at that point, and i think it would of been a repeat of there 1st fight without the 3 knockdowns.

But you never know with Manny Pacquiao he could always pull out a knockdown from somewhere. But the Manny Pacquiao who was effective against JMM in 2008.

The 2004 version would have been nowhere near as effective against JMM. And more than likely he would of been outboxed by atleast 8 rounds to 4.

I just can't help thinking JMM made the worst choice of his career, turning down the immediate rematch with Manny Pacquiao. Then losing to an unknown Chris John, now its too late because no matter if they fight. Its still going be far tougher now because Manny Pacquiao has improved leaps and bounds since then.

good question. A far more 1 dimensioinal pac, a fresher jmm the odds are stacked in his favor. he could have beaten him
but the definitive answer to who was better ?i dont think
that could have been answered then or in a third bout.

            lol Most likely..

I mean Marquez still put the leather on this supposed "improved Paqiaou" with ease. Juan dealt with the power and speed when he saw it coming, only time he got caught was when he was reachin and thats when everyone gets caught.

I don't think I'll ever understand the Manny Hype though. Aside from Marquez and a Morales who put up his last great fight, Manny hasn't done s#$% but jump from division to division and pick out the weakest guys. I know he's fast and can pop, lol but I just can't believe no one has either suggested or even desired to see him in there with someone who can take those shots and throw some leather of their own. lol The ****in guy has a golden ticket in his ass, he can get away without havin to fight anyone for any reason.

I mean Oscar catches alot of ****, lol But Oscar wasn't even as protected as Manny is with Bob Arum. But then again Oscar took it upon himself to make the biggest fights...lol Manny just keeps his mouth shut and lets it slide.

As a fan who wants to see the best fights, I can't say I like the path Pacquiao has chosen but I have no qualms with facing a Hatton at all. That said, like when Roy Jones moved to heavyweight, The person to dethrone Pacman may reside in the divisions he deserted.

Regardless of how you scored each bout individually, I think we can all agree that Marquez won more rounds in two fights. I think that makes threadstarter's premise very likely but you can never say for a certain against a guy like Pacquiao who's proven he knows how to adjust.

He would've won clearly. After the Chris John mess his career was moving slow, beating Pacquiao on a rematch at that time would've been his shortcut to
                  where he is now.

Drawing or not correctly winning by 1 point, whichever way you see it against Marquez the first time, just showed how hard Pacquiao was to beat as a hugely 1 dimensional fighter back then. It never showed more than against Marquez where Pacquiao nearly threw left hands for all 12 rounds using nothing to set them up and lackluster movement. Yet he still found his moments to connect and fusturate Marquez. Neither had much of a rythme in the fight, although it did lean more towards Marquez. And yes, now that Pacquiao has progressed so much, Marquez's chances only get slimmer and slimmer.
