The California Agenda: A Look Inside Margarito-Gate

By Michael Swann - In recent years the state of boxing in the State of California has been the gift that keeps on giving for a boxing writer in search of a hot topic. There had been a laundry list of alleged acts of malfeasance marking the regime of former executive officer Armando Garcia and the State looked forward to a new day of ethics and transparency.

Then, prior to the Antonio Margarito-Shane Mosley fight before 20,820 at Staples Center on January 24th it was alleged that Margarito had intended to enter the ring with loaded gloves. A few days later Margarito and his trainer Javier Capetillo had their licenses suspended pending the outcome of the investigation into the “plaster like substance” found in Margarito’s hand wraps. No wonder these things happen... they really need to have some changes here..
Who will inspect the inspectors?

I bet you that if the plaster investigation turns out to be true, no one will admit guilt of doing it. Knowingly or unknowingly how the material ended in the wraps, they will deny, deny, deny. It's all too common nowadays, professional athletes in any sport where their legacy is tainted with cheating and scandals they will not man-up and admit accountability. Fans are left shaking their heads in disbelief.

Who will inspect the inspectors?

As someone who is aspiring to become a boxing official with the State of California I have to say I think it is a shame we associate the amount of money someone makes with the level of integrity we expect from them. Protecting the principles of this sport should be the top priority of all officials regardless of what they are getting paid, and I would like to believe in fact that is the case.

fans should know that in sports of all level high school-professional the athletes will always try to give them self an advantage. Im sure there is a few people that have done this in boxing. The pats taped their opponents, a marathon runner didn't really run the whole marathon, shane used steriods, vargas used steroids, tito had illegal wraps, gsp is beign accused of vaselining his whole upper body in bjpenn fight, jordan used to push off, ewing used to hook you with the elbow, sprinters used steroids, chineese gymnast were too old etc etc etc! It's sports and people whatever they can to give them the best chance.

Damn! This **** is very serious. Is they find that in deed it was plaster, Capetillo, Margarito and the officials who signed off the wraps are all ****ed!!!!!!!!

I hope the CSAC makes a statement with this case and dont sweep this under the rug, because the CSAC sounds a bit corrupted!!!!!!!!!

yeah but what im saying is getting an advantage legally or illegally is nothing new in sports. Why people act like it doesnt' happen is beyond me. They must have never played any type of organized sports in their lives.
