So you think Calzaghe has a "very good chance" against a prime Michael Spinks? Bob Foster? Dwight Muhammad Qawi?

Light-heavyweights are whom he should be matched up with anyway, rather than smaller guys like Leonard and Hagler, and Duran who peaked at friggin 135 for crying out loud.

175 is where Calzaghe would most likely be fighting under the old weigh-in rules anyway (even if 168 did exist before the mid 80s).

Why would I have a reason to think he wouldn't do what he has always done in every fight, IE: win?

I don't believe Hearns would have beaten Calzaghe. And this is coming from a MASSIVE Tommy Hearns fan. Hearns didn't have the best chin. He also got tired and his stamina wasn't fantastic. Although it's easy to see fighters of the past in a glorious light, so I understand why anyone might think Hearns would beat him.

I always said it would take a good cruiser or heavyweight punch to put Calzaghe down and keep him down. Tommy had power, but not the kind of power needed to KO Calzaghe. He lost to welterweights, middleweights, and light heavies, was knocked out 4 times, had 5 losses in total, and 1 draw. Maybe if Calzaghe was a welter or light middle it might be a different story. As it stands, no, Hearns would not beat Calzaghe. He's not powerful enough and I don't think he'd outpoint him over 12 rounds.

All of those fighters would have beaten calzaghe except maybe benn because of the weight difference, leonard was smaller but would be to quick and clever for JOE. Calzaghe was the best of a bad division. When benn fought the super middleweight division was a tough divison.
what a load of bolllocks joe was a very intelegent fighter sounds like sour g****s to me u dont hold a belt for 11 years being **** even ATGs get beat by bums and u say lacy wasnt a good fighter its funny how loads of ppl in the boxing world said otherwise but i bet had he beat joe all the muppets on here who say joe is **** would be suckin lacys balls

        • I don't know about Hagler but he definitely beats the other guys.

But since we're not talking in a pound for pound sense...who cares? That's like saying Lennox Lewis would beat Ray Robinson. Yeah, and?

not to take anything away from joe but look at his opposition.. he has some good names like jones and bhop.. but they were past their primes and he still lost in my eyes to bhop.. Joe had life and death with Sakio Bika.. Hagler kills Joe

Calzaghe is miles better than he is given credit for. He is unbeaten, no matter what opposition he has faced. Jones lost to fighters like Johnson, and Tarver. Hopkins lost to fighters like Taylor. None of those defeats were against great opponents.

He may not have fought the best, but at least he didn't lose to the average. But saying that Kessler, and Hopkins were the best around his weight.
well said ...... i fully agree here to many ppl slag joe off but fact it who beat him how many title fights did he have how long was he champion any1 on here name me 5 boxers since the 60s that have done better than that (not jumping divisions im talking record) and ill start a post saying how **** joe is but untill then hes still a 46 fight undefeated 2 weight 11 year world champ with 21 title defences and in my eyes that deserves respect and anyone who thinks otherwise is delusional like timba said he didnt lose to ok fighters like jones or hopkins have

First of all, Bika is a ****ing TOUGH dude. He gives anyone around his weight class a hard fight.

Secondly, it wasn't "life or death", it was an ugly brawl in which Bika tried every dirty trick in the book, and still lost.

Third, look at the score cards, FFS. It was a wide UD for Joe.

Is that really what you call a "life or death" fight, or are you just clutching at straws and exaggerating?

Well we can start with Sven Ottke who also retired undefeated and has as many or more super middleweight title defenses than Joe.
