He doesn't really get hatred. His fans do, be cause their usually delusional.

But many don't hate him, they simply don't rate him. I mean to brag about beating Lacy, a 40 year old washed up RJJ, and surviving and taking a dodgy SD against a 43 year old is pretty lame and poor.

I'm sure this has been said a million times, but I think that most would dislike Joe Calzaghe because of his internet fans

I don't hate him i used to like him but in the last few years, he's got too big headed and he contradicts himself all the time. He never used to be like that its ever since he beat Jeff Lacy he's started to act like a bit of an ass IMO.

Plus i think he should of took risks much earlier in his career, he is a very good fighter no doubt about it. But i honestly don't see him as a great fighter, despite his accomplishments he doesn't have that X-Factor when i watch him.

When i watch fighters like Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao, ETC. I see something special in them i don't see that with Joe Calzaghe personally, and every big win he has had has question marks surronding it.

Im not saying its all his fault he didn't get the big fights, he was unlucky to be in a era when all the fighters who had a name either retired. Or moved up in weight but IMO he still could of done something about it much earlier.

He said for years he had to starve himself to make the Super Middleweight limit, and he was going to move up to Light Heavyweight so why didn't he ? this may sound like im hating on him but im not, he's achieved alot and he deserves respect. But i honestly don't see him as a great fighter when i watch him, or based on his best wins.

James Toney beat 3 HOF fighters Mike McCallum, Michael Nunn, Evander Holyfield, plus i believe Michael Nunn was P4P number 3 at the time ? and even though Evander Holyfield was past his best, its still a hell of an achievement for a former Middleweight.

To be only the 2nd man to stop a fighter like Evander Holyfield, at Heavyweight. When the only other fighter to do it was 240+ pounds. And Mike McCallum ? well i don't have to explain about him, his record speaks for itself he's a legend.

Also add some quality names like.

              Doug DeWitt
              Vassily Jirov
              Charles Williams
              Tony Thorton
              Iran Barkley
              Tim Littles
              Reggie Johnson
              Merqui Sosa

              ETC.

All ranging from 160-200+ pounds, makes him an ATG.

I thought he was something else when he beat Kessler, but that Hopkins fight is just amazing. Hop has a way of completely spotlighting your bad mechanics if you're only good at one thing. Joe didn't even look like a professional fighter and the win for JC looked like a magic show to me, smoke and mirrors mostly. Calzaghe is wise to leave boxing before his athleticism fails him because he has no D so I'm not going to pick at him if he's done, but the biggest thing here is he didn't push himself when he was younger. He needed to be the one vigorously chasing the big stars not the other way around. Oh, and Glen Johnson. Whether he could defeat him or not is besides the point, of all fighters to appear to be leary of, that one takes the cake when he misses fighting the man on 4 occassions.

Simple: fighting style and opposition. Take your pick.
