i remember watching cotto train (i forgot if it was on a countdown, or a special segment on Cotto on HBO) but cotto was basically training himself in the gym, while evangelista was just lookin at him from a distance - not really saying anything.

i remember thinking to myself, wtf?
another thing about his training that i noticed was his lackadaisical training.
maybe he turns it up when the camera's are off,
but he doesn't seem to train hard to me.
    I've seen floyd,oscar,margarito, train their asses off;
i can't say the same for cotto.
about the trainer switch; cotto's defensive deficiencies have showed up plenty of times before.

I think he doesn't train hard in front of the media. When the cameras are off he turns it up. How could anyone get to that level without training hard? But I would agree, he needs a new trainer. Floyd Sr would probably be best but Cotto would never be able to understand him. I'd like to see Freddie Roach in his corner.

maybe because he was just good enough.and i don't like the floyd sr idea.cotto doesn't need to rock the philly shell.he needs to bring it back to what he used to do, with improved defense.freddie would be better, but i don't know exactly what change he would make to cotto's game.

he needs to get someone that can improve on what he all ready is.
roy, shane, left their fathers, and showed they can be better,
(though in roy's case it had more to do with his father being so paranoid about so promoter stealing away his son)
while judah and tito didn't,and didn't improve.
kevin rooney, or teddy atlas would be my choices(if i had one).
i think both of them can improve his defense, considering cotto's height and his original style, which was a bastardized version of the peek a boo.
i wouldn't expect them to turn him into another tyson; cotto doesn't have quick feet or quick upper body movement, but i think they would better cotto's defense, which is where he needs the most improving.
team cotto does not change their gameplans according to their opponents.

cotto didnt potshot margarito (if he did he would've won)... potshotting involves using foot movement to set up one punch and then moving away to avoid counters

what cotto did was to unload 3-4 punch combos while his back was against the ropes. his ring generalship was lacking and his stamina wasnt up to the task of doing that for all 12 rounds.

i gotta admit some of that cotto sparring vid that came out was wack... they were fighting at the slowest pace ever... no wonder this kid has no stamina

his ring generalship was great in brief circumstances, while horrendous in others, mainly laying on the ropes.but the potshotting refers to him trying to outbox margarito.

The stauts and make up of Cotto's camp is the least of his concerns...After rewatching Cotto-Margarito I can't see Miguel coming back as the same fighter...He took a hellacious amount of punishment and its not like Cotto didn't already have chin issues...This will just magnify the problem IMO...

there's no way of knowing that yet.we have to wait for the jennings fight to further ostracize margacheato.

He's been down couple of times from flush shots, and he has chin issues ? People rate fighters as glass chinned too easily today.
