Floyd gaining number 1 pound for pound status was bad for boxing.

if he did not want to fight the top guys at 147 he should have just said , "i'm not really a welterweight and move back down."
no one said anything when he went to grab a 154 belt to make millions against delahoya and move back down from 154.
we know floyd is not really a 154 fighter.
look at pac. he fights one fight at 147 then he says he's moving back down. no one gives him **** because he's not really a welterweight.
now if pac holds on to a 147 belt for a couple of years and stays fighting at 147 then he would get the same **** because it's like he's holding the division hostage.Comment

Floyd undoubtedly deserved his pound for pound status, his ability is unquestionable. However Floyd used his position to turn down other fighters.
My argument is this, if Floyd was not number 1 pound for pound the public simply would not have accepted his unwillingnesss to fight people such as Cotto or Margarito. His reign at the top of the pound for pound list lasted approximately 220 weeks (I may stand corrected here), in this time he only faced one serious welterweight, Zab Judah.
Instead he was allowed to choose fights such as De La Hoya and Hatton when they were clearly no match for him. I still think Floyd would have beaten anyone he faced but all of these opinions remain unproven.
This "best fighter in the world syndrome" is bad for boxing, even the gracious and fight anybody attitude of Manny Pacquiao has been affected by this syndrome, as we saw with the Hatton saga recently.
The pound for pound list certainly has been the catalyst in the creation of many great fights but in my eyes it has cost us some great fights also.Comment

I understand that people wanted to see Floyd fight more at Weleter and I did too. The thing is the fight that was supposed to happen there was Cotto. Margarito made a matchup possible with Floyd when he beat Cotto in July. Prior to that had Floyd fought him and won people would discredit the fight saying Tony was not very well known and over hyped. The July fight gave Tony real credibility. So in actuallity its the Cotto fight that should have happened. It should have happened after Hatton if it was going to happen. But the talks about Margarito are a bit off since since Tony just hit his peak in popularity in July.
The majority of Floyds opponents are nobodies.
You guys need to get another angle to weasel your way out of a fight with a dangerous fighter.
Sosa was not very well known.
Ndou was not very well known.
Brusseles was not very well known.
Baldomir was not very well known.
Jukko was not very well known.
