Floyd gaining number 1 pound for pound status was bad for boxing.

In 07, I expected to see PBF face either Cotto or Marg after he beat DLH. I never criticized him for makin that move the 1st time, just goin for the rematch later on. He coulda fought Marg in 06 after he beat Zab, but he didn't have to cuz he wasn't the world champ as you said homey. PBF got his big $ fight wit DLH and shoulda taken on his threats after that. Marg lost to Pwill just as Cotto was beatin Zab, so they were both at the top of the WW rankings at that time, although the mandate woulda been more wit Cotto obviously. He didn't want it wit either so he faced Hatton. Then before Marg-Cotto could determine his undisputed top challenger, he retired. It just looked bad on his part, especially after he'd seemingly accepted Marg's challenge face to face.Comment

Floyd undoubtedly deserved his pound for pound status, his ability is unquestionable. However Floyd used his position to turn down other fighters.
My argument is this, if Floyd was not number 1 pound for pound the public simply would not have accepted his unwillingnesss to fight people such as Cotto or Margarito. His reign at the top of the pound for pound list lasted approximately 220 weeks (I may stand corrected here), in this time he only faced one serious welterweight, Zab Judah.
Instead he was allowed to choose fights such as De La Hoya and Hatton when they were clearly no match for him. I still think Floyd would have beaten anyone he faced but all of these opinions remain unproven.
This "best fighter in the world syndrome" is bad for boxing, even the gracious and fight anybody attitude of Manny Pacquiao has been affected by this syndrome, as we saw with the Hatton saga recently.
The pound for pound list certainly has been the catalyst in the creation of many great fights but in my eyes it has cost us some great fights also.
floyd always wanted to fight delahoya
delahoya was ducking floyd because floyd was more risk than reward considering delahoya could fight anybody and make bank.
being the p4p champ gave floyd the reward that delahoya was looking for. dont get it twised dlh was always the guy who does the choosingComment
