can anyone argue that Calzaghe bested Hopkins in the following criterias?

    Ring Generalship
    Effective Aggression
    Defense

Work-rate is supposed to take a back seat to these three critereas when judging a fight, but for some reason the judges in this fight chose to ignore them

i think he realized that joes footwork is poor so he always made sure that he was on the outside and he made sure that he landed a textbook counter straight hand (his favourite hand) and he was as successful as any other fighter in neutralizing joes strength.

however he could have gone to the body more often in the clinches, he could have timed joe better when he was coming in with a right uppercut (see the kessler fight), he could have feinted more often as well to set up his jab andother punches from long range/outside.

imo if kessler had the ring smarts of hopkins or toney he would beat joe, a prime james toney may also beat joe - apart from that i can't think of many fighters.

I'm about as unbias as you can get in regards to this particular fight, as both a huge Calzaghe fan and huge Hopkins fan (from before he beat Pavlik unlike 90% of them)

And I thought it was pretty clear who the winner was

and so did my family who are all Calzaghe fans judging by the forlorn expressions on their faces before the decision was announced

edit: Oh and I thought Pacquiao-Marquez 2 was much clearer for Marquez then this bout was for Hopkins.
Quoted for the next page. I hate when I get cut off. It's a pet peeve.

In my heart I felt Joe won. I mean Bernard jus did too little. It was still close as hell tho. Too much clinching and everything. I hate watching that fight. Both Joe and Bernard looked like **** that night. Not many wanna see that fight again. It was terrible. But if u ask me...

                Prime Bernard beats Prime Joe.

That's one jacked up scorecard, how'd you mess up scoring the KD in the first? lol

I don't agree with Pac/Marquez being a more clear win for Juan. Especially not since I went back and watched the fight multiple times and score it as I went. There were some really really close rounds in there, I mean close as hell.

Maybe Calzaghe took the 2nd round, it was a toss up, but other than that, I didn't see him taking any of those early ones.

And Hopkins clearly won the 7th and 8th on my card. I didn't give him the 10th though.

It was a very close fight, but people act like Joe dominated him for some reason.

I just had Calzaghe winning 114-113,it really could have gone either way,I liked Joe's workrate and yes, clean punching the second part of the fight, plus Bernard was hardly punching at all.I gave Joe 5 of the last 6.

Hey now, I've been a 'Nard diehard since around '98, and I've been watching him in total since '95.

Hometown hero, and all that jazz.
