Roy Jones Jr would beat Bernard Hopkins Jr today

I like how Roy Jones gets a lot of doubters now after losing to Calzaghe, the #1 LHW today. Is it because Calzaghe beat Jones by a wider margain than Hopkins?

Styles make fights and Hopkins isn't going to come at Jones throwing 1000 punches, they will fight at a much slower pace and Jones has much better handspeed, power and even reflexes than Hopkins today. Hopkins has the edge in footwork and defence but I can see Roy outpointing him, even today.

Roy has not been the same since he came back down from Heavyweight but I think he's better now than he was in the Tarver and Johnson fights (he took the Johnson fight too soon after being KOed) and he could easily have won the third Tarver fight if he actually tryed. He was unimpressive against the two journeymen he fought but I put that down to not training with as much desire because he impressed me loads in the Trinidad fight (even Tito impressed me) and parts of the Calzaghe fight. If Roy is motivated he could beat Bernard, even today.

roy is one of my favorites but Hopkins today is a lot sharper and technical for him. Hopkins would make Roy look bad, sad but true.

Hopkins today probably could make a prime roy look bad, when all roy would be hitting is gloves. Hopkins defense improved over time since the first roy fight, that I've never seen roy ever fight someone who had a defense like bhop.

A good 7 years I'd have thought, besides, Hopkins doesn't have the style anymore to "seriously hurt" anyone.

At this point in their careers Hopkins has the much better style to beat Calzaghe than Hopkins. Jones doesn't have the defence to stop all those punches from Calzaghe, he wouldn't have to worry about that with Hopkins.
