I agree... And just because it was like this for DLH, maybe now with him gone, it doesnt have to be that way again.. DLH was popular for a reason... Millions were spent on his "pr" image, where that money could have been spread to a whole host of other fighters.... They made DLH into a brand name outside of boxing and that in itself alienated millions of potentil fans visa v the growth of other fighting sports... There was a serious backlash to the DLH era as anyone can easily see.

but the networks have to adapt as well. They give dates to guys like Gamboa, and others who have never even fought anybody, because they think thats what the public wants to see. Every network is looking for the next Gatti. HBO thought they had one in Katsidis, but that didnt work out too well. And theres a good arguement that they are showcasing the next generation of fighters, but sometimes their selections leave a bit to be desired. But yet they put on a great matchup with Calzaghe and Kessler, and nobody watches. So whats the solution? I sure dont know, and apparantly network people alot smarter than me dont know either. Its a tough issue. To become widely known, you must have tv exposure, and to get tv exposure, the networks have to like you.

Athletes are paid according to merit

They are not, they never have been, and they never will be. Hopkins is better than many fighters who get paid far more than him, but he has no crossover appeal. Until Mayweather fought De La Hoya, he was always badly paid, because he was perceived as boring, yet he was the P4P #1. Sebastian Coe is one of the greatest runners in history but never became a millionaire. David Beckham is paid far more than many footballers who are more skilful than he is, but who are not celebrities like he is. Like Beckham, Hatton is a celebrity, who brings to the table millions of fans who do not ordinarily have any interest in boxing, but who love him.

That's how business works, except in communist countries. All top boxers earn far more than they deserve on merit alone, if you compare them with sports that have much fewer fans, or if you compare them with ordinary jobs that still require a lot of skill but don't have economic clout. So all top boxers "get away with murder", as you put it.

First it's not crap, it's true, and second, he is popular in the US, especially among Latinos. Maybe less popular than Pac, there, but combine US and UK together, and Hatton has a lot more paying fans.

Neither can make nearly as much against anyone else as they can against each other. But Hatton regularly earns more than $10 million, even when fighting nobodies, Pac doesn't. He earned around $3 million in the rematch with Marquez.

Hatton for months has gone on record saying he wants to fight the best pound for pound fighter, and he just pissed his opportunity away.......

A legally binding agreement was made, and it was then reneged on by Pac, who also refused to take calls from his own trainer and his own promoter, who he appointed to be his trainer and promoter. Pac pissed it away.

HATTON NEEDS PAC-MAN, PAC-MAN DOESN'T NEED HATTON.......
