Mogens Palle: "Kessler Ready for Larsen"
Collapse

I honestly dont even care about Kessler taking this Larsen fight, the real problem is that he will be tied up with a worthless mandatory fight afterwards. thats pretty much a year gone right there. bah.No news there. I guess Palle always wanted to make the all-danish fight.
Of course this is the bigger fight in terms of money. And that seems to be more important right now than getting a fight with Johnson for US exposure. Point here is that a Kessler-Larsen fight is huge NOW. It will be worth a lot less if Larsen loses to Bute and/or Kessler loses to Johnson.
and Glen isnt exactly a young man.Comment

He has leverage! trying not to sound cynical here, but Mogens Palle is not getting any younger or any healthier. If Mogens wants to make his last BIG fight, and go out with a ****, it has to be now. If Kessler quits, Mogens has nothing left.Nobody tells Palle that they want out of the contract. Markussen and Larsen is just 2 recent members of a long list of danish fighters (Gert Bo etc.) wanting to be released. The end result has always been a prolonged period of inactivity and wasted years.
Palle wouldnt give a damn if Kessler wouldn't fight. Palle can just lean back as Kessler wastes his prime years in a contract dispute. Kessler loses in this case.
Palle wants his contracts to be honored and rightly so. It's the fighters themselves who's to blame for not getting a proper manager to look out for them. I cannot see Kessler having any leverage whatsoever in terms of getting Palle to release him. He's at the mercy of the old man really.Comment

In economic terms from Kessler's perspective the issue is this:
I: Fight Larsen and get 3 million euro's (my guess) and very limited US exposure.
II: Fight Johnson and get ½ mio. euros (my guess) and a bit more US exposure.Comment

In your post you basically say what I say: He is at the mercy of Mogens Palle. He can just lean back and watch Kessler wriggle about while losing his prime to father time.Comment

Great! After failing to land a big fight with a top guy we finally get this much anticipated all-danish showdown. I'm sure Parken stadium will be a sell-out.
Biggest fight available for Kessler for sure.
Those who wants to see Kessler against a top yank will have to wait. After Larsen, Kessler has another lame mandatory against the hugely popular, deserving, dangerous, superstar Perdomo (or something like that)...

And the beat goes on...Comment

Mogens Palle 50 years in boxing. HOF in 2008. Becoming 75 on the March 14 2009. Bad health and no one who will run his business, when he stops himself. I think this Larsen - Kessler fight is exactly how Mogens Palle wants to make his big finally in boxing.Nobody tells Palle that they want out of the contract. Markussen and Larsen is just 2 recent members of a long list of danish fighters (Gert Bo etc.) wanting to be released. The end result has always been a prolonged period of inactivity and wasted years.

Mikkel Kessler should knock Palle out. I'd pay to see that.

Nah, Palle is past prime, but you don't stay in boxing 50 years writing bad contracts.
So is Larsen with Sauerland, I keep forgetting, or is he a free agent?
If so maybe Sauerland can force his hand in this somehow.
Anyways I hope the Aarhus fighter wins!Comment

But Kessler could make a deal with Palle and agree to fight Larsen, if Palle agrees to let him go after just that 1 fight, instead of the 3-fight deal Kessler unknowingly signed.Comment
