haven't read the thread, but in regards to the original statement i would say it goes like this personally

Bernard Hopkins = Roy Jones Jr. > James Toney = Joe Calzaghe

if BHop/RJJ or JC/Toney aren't equal, they are very close to each other with there being a gap in between the duos

But wait, Shotime president (couldn't be angry or biased he didnt get a big fight) claimed there was a phone conference (sans advisors) Hops said sure I'll fight him.

Then called back the next day (his advisors or him and doubled the amount to fight).

Now if Joe really wanted a legacy defining fight what would he do? But NO. Joe thought he was THE champ (with his ****** worthless WBO trinket) so he was like no also.

I'm not going to get into Hop's Don King tourney contract and breaking it by fighting his mandatories and the plan he had to fight Oscar to make his name and his millions. That's too easy because I was actually watching boxing back then.

Any Calzaghe fan that claims Hopkins ducked him MUST ALSO add that Calzaghe Ducked Glen Johnson twice (and Woods, but i won't bring that up, just say Johnson and I'm happy )

I think my initial post covers it pretty well though.

It's true he wasn't on their level, because he didn't do as much. Well, actually, Toney faced the toughest competition, then Jones.... Hopkins and Calzage faced about the same levels of competition during their runs. They both stepped it up about the same time too. A common misconception is that Hopkins faced stiffer competition, not so. He faced about the same level of competition as Joe, he just did it at a much older age.

Joe didn't do enough to be on their level, but that's not to say that he isn't as far as skills are concerned. He had and still has all the skill to be on their level, he just didn't quite rise to the occasion. Frank Warren is as much to blame.
