Tyson had a chance to be either the greatest or one of the top 5 best ever.

but the following people and things screwed that up...

    1.) Tyson
    2.) King
    3.) Tyson's upbringing
    4.) Tyson
    5.) King
    6.) Tyson leaving Kevin Rooney
    7.)Tyson
8.) The streets of new york
    9.) King
    10.) horne and halloway

Indeed had Tyson's career progressed like a normal boxer. He could have achieved so much more.

But deaths in the family, Don King, Firing managers, Being idiotic by hanging with women, Divorce and legal troubles all at once meant Tyson was a Train-Wreck waiting to happen

Tyson is an equal legend to Ali in terms of his name power, but not close in terms of legacy. The fact that he fell apart so bad in the 2nd part of his career cancels some of the shine from his prime. He coulda made up for some of the bad **** had he beaten the other top HW's of the 90s Holy and LL, but he was stopped by both.

I agree Tyson had a chance to be much greater than he was. But the only thing or one to blame is Tyson himself. He CHOSE to let King in. He CHOSE to get rid of Rooney. He CHOSE to let Horne and Halloway come aboard. There have been plenty of fighters from the streets of New York with the same upbringing as Mike and were never given close to the opportunities or chances Mike had and made something better of themselves.

Man, to this day, maybe it was because how young I was, but Tyson, like no other, got me amped for a fight in his heyday.
I grew up watching the 84 Olympic team. Saw the Hagler Hearns, and Hagler SRL fights.
Something was different when Tyson fought. It just WAS.
I don't know how to describe it.
Looking back, maybe a "prime Mike Tyson" gets ridiculed, but he was one of those invincible dudes that you looked up to, and didn't have that 20/20 hindsight.
It's easy for Tunney and Wlad Owns to talk ****, because they have no clue about it.
Next time they make a "Wii sports Klit brothers jab out", cool.
